Side Mirror switch out

Hey all,

I looked briefly and didn't find any threads for exactly what I'm looking to do.

I have an 07 328xi coupe with (i assume) auto dimming side mirrors and I'd like to get the 'blue glass' with or without the heating element. I found them fairly cheap (~$124 for both sides) online.

Before I purchase, has anyone else done this switch, will the heaters work with the new blue glass, any other issues I should know about? Also, is there a how-to DIY guide on switching out the glass properly?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

As far as I know, all e92 have the heating function as a standard option on all cars.

I think your only main concern should be if the wiring (pin) are the same for auto dim and non auto dim (blue mirror).

P.S. Does your car has premium package? If yes, then you would have auto dim and auto fold. Therefore, I believe wiring is different, so it wouldn't be a direct plug n play, you would need to buy couple more items plus coding.

AFAIK the connectors on the backside of glass are different between the two.

Just the plain heated glass has (2) little tabs that stick out back, and the wiring harness that goes to the glass has (2) female spade type connectors.

The heated & autodim mirrors have an entirely different modular style connector with matching on wiring harness that has not only the heating connections, but also the connections for auto dim feature contained within same connector.

Now you could go to the trouble of cutting off your modular connector, finding the wires in your harness that are for heating, attach appropriate spade style connectors and using only those (2) wires from harness - wrapping the others...
