What can you do with Aux input jack?
I am looking at E90s and thinking I may not need Bluetooth as much as I thought because of the Aux input jack. My Droid2 has a 3.5mm output jack. I presume that can just be run into the Aux in jack on E90s, right? If I am listening to some other source and a call comes in that way, will the Aux (phone call) override whatever else is playing?
I will need to figure out how the mic would work in that case. That would depend on the Droid. Once the 3.5mm jack is plugged in, that would probably override the mic in the Droid. An external earbud/mic kit could probably be converted to do the job. Does anyone use a phone through the Aux input? What features does it give you? |

I think Bluetooth is standard on E9Xs or it is standard with Premium Pckg'd cars, which almost everyone is. Ask the dealer when you go to look. You will be surprised about what is standard on bimmers compared to PT Losers. Like electric windows, A/C, etc.

Bluetooth will become standard on F30 cars, but is not standard on e9x cars.
It is true that Bluetooth is a part of Premium package and that most cars on dealers' lots have it. (Which means that in order to get a normal driver's car one have to special-order it. Ordering Bluetooth is a very good idea nevertheless.) Aux jack will not work well as a replacement for hands free phone. Aux jack will not override anything by itself. In order to make the radio to use aux input one has to switch it manually. Last edited by AndreyT; 11-16-2011 at 06:09 PM.. |

OP, I suggest you get a car that has bluetooth already on it. Don't be stuck hating yourself for not getting it like some of us.

Uh I can't think straight now sorry if my post ^ made little sense (I deleted it)
Edit: Just plug in standard earbuds and see how they react to a phone call. I'm guessing the music will cut out and you'll hear the call but have to hold the phone for the mic. Bluetooth is nice because it allows you to pick up the call via the steering wheel and it has a hands free mic. With the aux input you will have to accept the call on the phone and then hold it anyways. Might as well accept the call, put it on speaker and set the phone down. You risk an accident and/or getting a distracted driving ticket for about 5 seconds/call. Last edited by username604; 11-16-2011 at 07:36 PM.. |

Eh, I started answering this question, and realized you're trying to get away without bluetooth at all. Think about this for a second, no bluetooth means no mic (I think) which means no input. So your side of the conversation won't exist. Not great for a phone a conversation!
Get bluetooth. The real downer is the e9x doesn't support bluetooth music steaming. I'll miss that. No cables, no fuss. |

And I've found unless the system integrates completely with the stock radio, it won't do a great job. A lot of can you hear me will be coming. |

Mine has no Premium, yet has Sport. Which means that I have power seats and no Bluetooth. No arguing though, not ordering Bluetooth was a mistake on my part.

I use my aux cable quite frequently. I have the Droid Incredible 2 cell phone which I frequently use to play music via the aux cable. When a call comes through, the music player stops (I use winamp, but the standard HTC player stops as well) to ring the phone. You can then answer, and if you do, you will hear the caller with your speakers. If you hold the phone within a foot and a half of your mouth, the caller should hear you just fine. I do this almost every day...

Having BT does not mean you will be able to stream audio over BT.
That is a separate package that costs a lot. Stupid BMW. Even Kia's have proper audio over BT included. |

There are several solutions
Blackberry gateway plugged in the aux.
gives you a2dp not sure if it works the phone. Denison.com makes some stuff Get a new head unit that has bluetooth and more but there are side effects that have to be taken into account. Dynavin is a pretty popular head unit replacement now. its made specifically for BMW's(or Euro Cars) and looks like it belongs in them. http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27 Go to the above link and do some searches.
