inside wear on tires

i have a question i noticed on the bmw the rear tires look similar to this / \ so the inside of the tire wears faster cause of it but my rear tires seem like they don't last i talked to the dealer when i had my car there and they said my car didn't need an alignment and it was fine and the tires on the bmw should last about 18k does this sound right? it seems if the tires were like | | i would be able to get a lot more miles out of them is there any way to get them to be more level?

BMW's are camber inclined cars, which means that the rears are supposed to look
like: / \

due to the Camber settings, which make these cars turn so well.

You can get an alignment to reduce camber and help tire wear, but you will be sacrificing performance and turning abilities to do so.

OE BMW alignement does have some slight camber for stability and handling. Zeroing out the camber would probably cause the car to be unstable during high speed. About 20k miles seems about right for OE RFT's from what I remember.

I just ordered some hankook ventus v12s from tirerack. Can I rotate the rear tires via remounting on the opposite side without an issue? I'll plan on doing this before I put on my winter sets next year.

About 20k miles on Toyo T1R's is actually pretty good... Those tires do offer a fairly low tread wear rating.

Yes, as long as your dismount the tires from the wheel so that they can still be run in the correct direction, this is no problem. Very few do so due to the added expense of mounting and balancing.

How is the rest of the tread? I ask, since after 18,000 KM (11,180 Miles) mine also wore on the inside like yours (see my garage photos). I am driving a Z4 and was told at a tire shop that this inside wear is normal due to the weight and roof in the trunk (I was on vacation at the time in the US). The tire shop manager recommended to add 4 psi more air in the rear tires, this was confirmed by my BMW service manager later when I got back home.

I expect (based on the the tread I have left) that my tires will take me to around 40,000 KM (close to 25,000 Miles). I will not replace them with the OEM RFT I will go to conventional tires properly Michelin.

What issues might one encounter if one does not remove the tire and remount them opposite? I am curious

Thanks!

I am wondering what would be the best Summer tire that you folks recommend?

I don't like to start a new thread

It's not just about the camber.
If the toe is off, the edge of the tire will wear like that.

Worn bushings will also cause accelerate wear like this. However, it is normal for our cars to have negative chamber.
