2008 328xi Lease End Buy Out - Realistic Scenario?

My lease will be up in a few months. I would like to buy my car. 2008 328xi will have about 38,000 miles at Lease-End. Residual is $24,869.

My main goal is to lower my monthly payments, put $0 down and have 0 repair and maint costs down the road. I crunched some numbers. Is this realistic?

Assumed negotiated price of $20,000. Add extended maint and extended warranty for 6 yr /100,000. (+$4,000). $24,000 financed at 3.9% (Rate advertised on BMWUSA.com) over 6 years with $0 down: Monthly payment including 6.25% state tax is about $400 per month.

The color of my car is not preferred. Also, there is no leather or premium pack. These should be positive negotiation points in my favor.

Do you think that negotiated price and monthly payment is realistic?

Thanks!

Given that the new 3 will be out next year, I plan on keeping mine as well. I only have 25K, plus all the options I want/need. I'm hoping for 22-24K with CPO.

Assuming you're happy with the green and no premium then that does work in your favor - but - you're over on miles by about $400 (assuming 12k yr) or $1600 (assuming 10k yr.) That works against you.

I'm not sure where everybody believes that they can negotiate a 20% discount from residual because that hasn't been my experience. I'd be looking at dealer sales for similar cars to see a reasonable price.

When I bought my car out of the lease, they knocked the residual down 5k and charged me 2k for the CPO warranty. That was without me haggling at all.

Gdnyc: that's what I like to hear, hopefully I have the same experience in a few months

My stealer says there are three things you can do on a lease buy out to add value to your car:

1. Extended maintenance warranty: $2,000
2. Extended repair warranty: $3,000
3. CPO: Depends on condition of your car

When people say they got CPO, I understand that means bringing your BMW up to new standards, but does CPO include any of the warranties I mention above? Just trying to figure out the most cost effective way to do this buy out. I think you get a more attractive rate if you CPO.

I don't think you can negotiate the price that you desire. I am going through that right now. The FS price to you is not negotiable, the lease to retail price FS has set of the dealer is generally ~2.5K lower. They are not going to take you on for some pathetic 500 bucks. You should be prepared for something like 23.5 at best as your price. Unless... for your particular model the lease to retail price is really really low. All I can tell you is that Xi's are generally more desired here in new England than i's, and I am having trouble getting more than 1.1K off the buyout price right now on my i

Thanks for the info. I decided I will not buy my car. There is a clunking noise that they cannot fix. Plus, its a hassle to set up extended programs and negotiate a buy-out price.

They finally replaced the lifters today that make the tick, tick, tick noise. Great... With 3 months left to go on my lease...

Now about that 2.0T Quattro I test drove today... (Really fun!) And of course my BMW CA offers me a tempting price on a 2011 e90 - decisions, decisions
