SWS-8, JL 500/1 Settings
I have read all the DIY guides for installing the SWS-8 subs and an amp but I'm unsure of how to set the settings for the JL500/1. Can someone with this setup please share your settings for all the switches and knobs and stuff on the amp? Also if you have Logic 7, can you recommend and EQ settings?
Thanks and Happy New Year's everyone! |

The only settings you really want to worry about is the gain and crossover.
For crossover, start out at 100Hz and set it lower to your preference. For gain, start it at halfway then tune it up or down a bit avoiding distortion.

The signal coming from the L7 amp's subwoofer channel is already crossed over. It is approx. 20 - 150 Hz. This is exactly the frequency range you need for the SWS to "blend" into the system, so don't mess with it much (leave the x-over "off"). If at all, you can try to engage the high-pass crossover, to cut off the low frequencies to protect the woofers at higher volume levels and make them sound a bit cleaner (I had mine set at around 40 - 50 Hz to increase power handling).
Regarding the gain, you ALWAYS start with minimum, especially with a powerful amp like that. Slowly increase the gain until you have reached the desired output level. The input voltage switch should be set to low. Be careful with the bass boost, both at the head unit and at the amp. Use it only to "tweak" the bass if necessary, but be aware that this is not a magic power reserve you are engaging here, but rather an artificial boost to the pre-amplified signal which can very quickly lead to distortion. Always use the amp's gain to set the correct subwoofer volume level, NEVER the bass boost. You will need an LOC to convert the high-level outputs of the L7 amp to the low-level inputs your amp requires. Good luck! |

What would the x-over be? The AMP LP Filter? And the high pass is the Infrasonic Filter? I understand how to set the gain. Thanks for the responses.

Check out these links:
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/Switches_Knobs.pdf http://mobile.jlaudio.com/tutorials/...ametric_EQ.pdf http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/gainSetting.pdf But basically, turn LP filter off and turn infrasonic (ultrasonic) filter to 40Hz. |
