Measurements by Red Bull and Mercedes indicate the Ferrari PU produces 4 kilowatts (5.4 bhp) more than Honda and 8 kilowatts (10.8 bhp) more than Mercedes.

The advantage should increase after Ferrari updates the hybrid system and use of more aggressive spark maps.

Well I’m in Barcelona and the place is full of F1 bits and bobs. Loads of people going to watch it and even the local supermarket in the centre has an F1 car next to the checkouts. Going to be a very interesting race with all of the updates and it’s rather warm over the next few day here as well.

It wasn't as bad as in 2020 when they had 3D scaned the w10, this is a hybrid design meshing (where they actually have to prove their engineering and not just 3d scan a rivals car - which is illegal now) in the rb18 and the w13 air box design. So it is kind of all new in a sense. It's also not exactly redbull either, the side pods do have some differences, but it is very very very similar.


Mercedes also launched new upgrades to the floor, they have a new double tea tray now - with a different support mechanism that should be more linear like shock instead of a buckle (the same way RB and Ferrari do it), reprofiled floor strakes for the inlet - a very intriguing design too, venturi tunnels seem larger with parallel chanels to bleed off air, and a new what seems to be hinge mounted piece on the floor edge.

Lets see if this solves porpoising or atleast alleviates it.

I don’t think Barcelona will be boring with the new regs, they can follow much close in the faster corners now so it should be a little more interesting racing wise this time around.

The big 3 all brought updates, mercedes with their new floor and some pretty decently major upgrades. This will be make it or break it for them, if the car is still problematic it likely is the end of the season for them.
