Jacked up

Just got my first jack and changed out my fog lights, for my jack, should i get a separator(forgot what its called) for en-between the car in the jack point or does it really matter, i did it without one and i seemed fine? Just took a pick of the first time i did it low quality phone shot but it worked in my driveway

really not a prob as long as your careful. I have used a socket before as a gap, that fits into the jack point and fits in the center of the jack as well. But next time, get some jack stands; jack the car from the front center jack point and use those spots for jackstands. Having the car on the jack itself while you are under it is not a good idea

You can use a hockey puck or something so you don't deform the plastic jacking pads.

A piece of wood, like a 2x4 about 5-6" long would do also. I got a hockey puck that works fine

This is what i do! you can even cut the hockey puck into a square insert so you have a perfect fitting puck.

There is a jack pad that is advertised in the back of BMW CCA's Roundel magazine. The same guy sells on eBay as well, but for a little bit more money. Also, ECS tuning sells something similar.

Essentially it's two pieces of aluminum, where one piece looks like a hockey puck and then a rectangular piece that fits inside the cars jack points is screwed to the puck piece. It's about $35-ish if I remember correctly.

A Canadian defacing a hockey puck eh? Aren't you worried the authorities will see this post?
