Anybody up for Bandimere this Wednesday, August 22nd?

I'm thinking about going. Temps should be relatively favorable.

I thought about it, but my wife wants to try bracket racing so it's more likely that I'll go on Friday instead. I've been running 50/50 E85 for a few weeks now and I'm going to try 100% E85 this week. If I don't have any problems I'll run that at the track. I'm hoping to hit 12s on that before I put the IC on. I can tell I'm very close, but I don't know if I'm there for sure until I can get to the track in decent weather.

^^^^ how is it running on 50/50 e85? Logs look good? would you consider meeting up and sharing that file?

I might go this Wed if the DA is low enough...

IMO it's running really well so far. I kept adding timing until I started getting real knock and then I backed off a bit. I'm running basically all the boost the stock turbos will give me. I never was able to hit the Stage1+ load targets, though, so my load target map is unmodified from that OTS map if I'm remembering correctly.

At this point I need to give the usual disclaimers. This would be considered a very aggressive map by Cobb OTS standards. I've run it through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, but have not made a full quarter mile pass yet, let alone run hard in a road course type of environment. For that reason I wouldn't recommend anybody use it for anything over a 1/4 mile at full throttle and even for that I'd recommend logging and not using it if you're not comfortable with anything you see. I also have a 6MT and have no idea what will happen on an automatic car. I was very aggressive in reducing how much timing got pulled at higher CATs, but put some of that back in after my hot weather testing. It's still less than OTS to take advantage of the E85. In hot weather it starts to pull some timing in 3rd gear after being at WOT through 1st and 2nd.

Having said all that, I can't really meet in the next couple of days, but I'd be happy to email the file if you want to take a look at it. I'm on the I8AOS code...are you?

Just a Cobb and a DCI to make life a little easier on the turbos. Previous best was 13.4@102 with only the OTS Stage1+ map and 20% E85. I'm probably running 6 degrees more timing than I was back then and a bit more boost. You can definitely feel a significant difference.

Can't go this Wednesday.

I've been away from this car stuff for a while. What's with the e85 talk? Do people just mix e85 with 91 without doing anything to their cars?

You can mix up to a certain point (25-50%) without doing anything else and the fuel trims can compensate. That will solve any knock issues you have on an OTS map. You can't really take full advantage of it unless you also add timing to use that extra octane. The new Cobb ATR software has a global fuel scalar value that also allows compensating for the change in fuel mixture so now you can run 100% without fuel trim problems. Because a higher volume of fuel is required as you add E85, people with any fuel system issues will see their problems get much worse on E85, though.

I just put about 9 gallons of E85 in on an almost empty tank. I left room in the tank in case I had problems and had to add more gasoline. Ran for about 20 minutes and took a data log. No problems so far, but I can't look at the log until I get home.

I sometimes run a 50/50 mix of E85 on the JB4 and get about 2 more peak PSI on the gauge. It's awesome! Gas mileage goes down by about 2 MPG tho, not from flooring it more, but because ethanol always gives you less mpg but more octane.

No problems in the logs except I can't add as much additional timing as I thought I could over my 50/50 map. It may be just slightly faster but it appears that you get 95% of the gain from a 50/50 mix. I already sort of knew that, but I'm still a bit surprised that there's so little additional gain.

But my fuel trims and lambda look fine and I didn't throw any codes so far. In theory there should be a bit of gain from running it straight just from the extra cooling of the exhaust making it easier to get the exhaust through the turbine housings. And it's nice to only have to pull up to one pump and swipe the card once.

Is there a designated map (procede) to run e85?

There is, but only for rev3:

http://procedetuning.com/BMW/n54/styled-19/index.html

They've even integrated a flex fuel sensor to automatically adjust to different mixes.

Amazingly, Shiv has seen 420whp (140+ over stock) with just a DCI and procede running a 50/50 mix (at sea level).

yeah, I've seen some ~410 whp dynos with the JB4 with just DCI and a 50/50 E85 mix.

I'm heading up tonight. If anyone else is going, look for a black sapphire sedan LCI and come say hi.

My email is tylerado@gmail.com

I might try to tweak it a bit so I can run it all the time. E85 station 1 mile from my house. Did you go up tonight?

I think you can run it all the time, I just wouldn't run it really hard like you would on a road course. But for 2 gear bursts here and there on the street it should be fine.

I didn't go up tonight, I heard it got rained out. Still thinking about Friday, though. I'll email it to you.

Yep, rained out yesterday. They called it at about 5:15. It's too bad too... There were not many people there, and temps were 58 degrees while waiting for tech.

Thanks a lot. Have you been running it all the time daily driving?

Yes, I daily drove on the map I sent you for about 2 weeks, with as much WOT testing as I could fit in as part of my commute. Right now I'm doing the same with a 100% E85 map. Not much additional gain...

yeah it sounds like the stock turbos are maxed with about 50/50 e85...
