Awesome stuff! After I graduate I will be doing something similar to this to my e90. Currently running a '91 318is in Auto-X STX class.

What made you give up on the N52? ECU issues?

Since you decided on the S54, what part of the S54 harness did you have to mod if at all? Is it the E46 M3 ECU, or are you using something aftermarket?

I'm just really curious how you got the S54 in there. Did you have to mod the subframe or firewall?

What about the drive shaft?

The more I think about it, the more I wonder why the chassis swap at all? Your E36 is smaller and lighter, no?

I'm guessing it has to do with power to weight ratio and the rules. Even if you have a lighter car they'll add weight to you car to make the competition more even. My brother ran into this issue in Grand Am with the Z4 he drove. His car was pretty light and had about 250hp but they added a 170-lb block of metal to the car.

We will be racing Buttonwillow later this year. Check out the schedule at www.ustcc.com.

You are more than welcome to trace it at the race. The pics of the splitter are still on page 3.

Think you will be in Socal at any point in the next couple of weeks? I'll drive out to you to make a trace, ha.

I am sure BTM can take care of your project. They are located in Campbell, California. Aren't you in NY?!

Yes, basically the complications of electronics of a late model.

The E46 is a lot easier to work with. We are using the stock ECU and harness. I might do an AEM standalone later. We are talking with AEM and they are working on a system that will accommodate the throttle by wire and the Vanos. I will keep you all posted.

USTCC is a late model series. I needed to move to at least an E46 chassis. I decided to go to an E9X instead and make sure I can race this car for a long time to come.

The series is a power to weight ratio, so you can adjust by adding power if you weight more. The newer cars are also allowed to run 275 tires while the old cars are only allowed 245. The last reason; 3 models old and you get a 150 lbs weight penalty as well.

No mods to the firewall, sub-frame, or rear drive shaft needed. Only motor mounts, custom BTM mounts.

Pectel SQ6. If you can afford it, get one. They are fantastic and support anything you can throw at em. (Vanos, throttle by wire, etc.)

That's incredible! No mods at all, stock ECU, and the thing just fit (sans motor mounts).

If BTM decides to sell these mounts, I'd really consider looking for an S54 if my N54 becomes too expensive to maintain.

Thanks for all of the info. If you keep a build-log of receipts and such, I for one (and likely many others) would really appreciate it.

Just too cool. Good work, man.

Yeah, that's who we used to get ours from. Unfortunately they are no longer a Pectel/Cosworth dealer. ApexSpeed had such great customer support too! We now work through Cosworth USA....who is also fantastic to work with. I love the Pi CalTool software and Engine Offload Tool. Great stuff. A lot of ALMS teams run the SQ6M.

PM sent about the Spec clutch.

Quick question on how they know how much HP you're running. Do they do a dyno on your car to see how much HP you're making in order to assess weight penalties?
I know RMP Motors in Canada is running an N52 in their e90 and they're making 298 RWHP and spinning the engine to 8,500rpms.

I sent the clutch back to SPEC. Had no use for it!

Yes they dyno our cars and there is an equation on how to calculate your weight. I think we need get a 13.2 multiplier.

I do have custom headers (no cats) if you need them for your build.

Thanks for the response. We actually have a Supersprint header already, so we won't need the custom header.
DSC_OFF may be interested in the header.

Hey man, how about some in car vids?

Has to be about the only s54 in the states. I'm sure BMW had quite a few mules with a similar situation running around!
