With my truck anything uphill no matter how small of an incline = wheels spinning. I even had some trouble pulling a 500 lb boat out of the water on a gravel launch ramp. My truck did have the locking diff which made a world of difference verses my roomates 2wd sierra.

It's funny how many times I've been passed by a hotshot 4wd truck in the snow at a ludicrous speed to see him spun out in the ditch 10 min later...any competent driver should not have difficulty with a 4x2 truck equipped with all season tires in the snow.
Correct, this is exactly the same as AWD cars that people have a tendency of forgetting.....
AWD and 4x4 are good pieces to get you GOING, but once you're going you really don't much more (if any, depending on speed, etc) advantage than your 2WD counterparts.

AWD cars have the same advantage in snow that FWD cars have the car pulls it out of turns rather than pushing like our RWD cars do.

So they do turn a bit better in the snow

correct, if you're powering out of a turn it will have an advantage, but even taking that into account, the quality of the tires are going to have a lot more to play with this than the drive system. (same thing with general driving as well, with AWD vs others)
