BTW Alfred, not sure if you saw or not, but here's a good post on just this same topic

You can always buy plugs and coil packs together, and when you pull and the plugs looks good, just reinstall, return them and then replace the coils...hopefully it will just be one of those two and you won't need injectors.

^ that's very helpful, Craig.

I checked my plugs about a month ago. They all looked good. I will check them again soon though

just kind of curious Alfred, what are you really looking for when you are looking at the Plugs?

The plugs on the N54 are a little different, because even though the center electrode might look good with sharp edges still, the 4 prongs ground electrodes around the side can get worn and cause the gap to get too big leading to misfires.

If you checked them and they look good, probably time to try new coils. Usually coils aren't too pricey, but I haven't priced them on the N54.

I compare them to each other. See the gaps, how worn they are. I usually check the sparks too, but Ive never tried it with the coilpacks this car has.

Craig, coilpacks are expensive. $6x.xx each.

make sure carefully check for signs of arching. Also the white insulator part of the plug. If there is a hair-line crack, then that would cause a misfire also.

You can always borrow coil packs to swap to see if they work before you buy some.

I dont have a BT tool to check though. I've been meaning to swap the coils too...I don't feel like doing anything (car related) in the winter though.

I think I got mine from Tischer for $45 each. You're welcome to borrow my old ones, but I'm even further from you than AR.
