Blown sub on 07 335i

hey guys...a friend spilled on the passenger side while driving, didnt inform me and now the sub's friend. where can i find a replacement? bmw quoted me something ridiculous so i dont want to consider it. i saw a lot of threads on earthquakes being the right fit etc but not sure if this is the right option. not really looking into upgrading the amp etc although i might consider it later down the road.

i have a logic7 system.

I have exactly what you need

Woofer came out of 2007 M6. Enclosure will not fit e90 but the actual driver is exactly the same. Perfect if you blew out one of your old drivers (like I did).

$60 shipped

It's quite simple actually.

* Remove the 4 bolts that hold the seat
* Do NOT disconnect the seat harness, just lean the seat back.
* Unscrew 8 (I think 8) bolts that hold the subwoofer enclosure and take it out
* Unscrew 4 more screws that hold the woofer and remove it, put the new one back in
* Put everything back in reverse.

Where in MA are you? We're gonna have a meet in Westin there tomorrow. If you want come over and someone (I'll be busy coding cars) will help you.

heya

hey man...are you in MA any time again?

i'm interested in your part. also on a side note i saw threads on the earthquake subs as a replacement. if i dont do anything with the existing amp, am i going to notice better sound than the stock woofer that got damaged? (sometimes i hear bass notes distort -if i have the bass set higher than normal and a bit louder)

any ideas?

You'll need a t50 torx bit for the seat bolts.

I think its a t20 for the speaker screws.

And Phillips head for the grill....I think there is 6.

The sws-8s will only be getting half the power they are rated at. You won't get much improvement. They may hit a little better under say 60hz. But unless you amp the sws-8s, it's really not worth it.

also...

do you think its worth hooking up the basslink with everything as is or dont bother with the basslink and just upgrade the two woofers to the earthquakes and hook it up to an amp?

You won't fit it in there, the subwoofer is not your typical woofer, here's a pic of it.

Well you can always try and try to jam it in there. Plus you might want to change the other one too, not sure how the logic7 amp will handle two different woofers at the same time.

I think the op means put the bass link in the trunk....not under the seats.

The sws-8s didn't hit the way i wanted. They are only 8" woofers....they can only do so much.

I blew them within 2 months with a Jl 500/1. I now have that Jl 500 powering a type-r in my trunk and have the stock l7 woofers externally amped. It sounds pretty good...not audiophiles quality but good enough for daily driving.

If you like deep deep bass, get a trunk sub. Or try mounting that bass link unit.

If you just want a mild improvement in low end, get the sws-8s and amp them.

If you want tight mid bass and deep bass, upgrade the under seats to a better driver. From reading on here jenhert? And kicker sambas are good for mid bass.

Trunk subs are endless....just set it up properly and you should be good. Ie proper box, power etc

Technic is the man to see

He will supply you with the speaker of your choice installed in the OEM housing
and also can give you technical support as to which speaker will work best with your system. He has many posts here and is located in Florida.

There are some install threads in the DIY section and here as well

Woofer housing pins (4): 61138364835.

That's it.

Technic, thanks so much for the reply! do you know what the price might be for the other two items? i'm just trying to gauge on how much this would total.

Also the kickers are a good deal? i mean do they sound good for the price?

bit confused...

Hey Technic,
I have the logic7 system stock with no external amplifier hooked up. I was reading on of your posts (pasted below)
Sound:
- these drivers sound much better and even louder than the SWS-8 at midbass all the way to 200Hz. There's a much better definition and impact of the whole bass spectrum with these midbass and the sub than what I used to have with the SWS-8 and the sub.

However, remove the sub and they do not sound as great as the SWS-8 alone. The sub punch with the SWS-8 still is better for me, and with some tuning it can fake some midbass as well. And that's what I can conclude between a SWS-8 and a midbass driver: the SWS-8 will sound great with a processor/EQ, nice sub punch and decent midbass. Remove the processor and the SWS-8 sucks at midbass, which is most of the complaints in this forum comes from. Use a dedicated midbass driver and it really sucks at subbass (the SSMB8 simply pops and cracks at anything in the 30Hz-40Hz range) but excel at midbass without a processor/EQ.
do you still recommend the kickers over the earthquake? something i notice currently is the popping (occasionally) when the bass level and volume are set to higher levels, and was hoping to avoid this. I got my car in June and this is pretty much the first time I'm looking to make any changes and don't know much but hope to learn as much as I can. Thanks for the advice.

Anyone else out there with any suggestions?
