i use pirelli sottozero. They're pretty good winter tires. Comparable to blizzal lm25. These are the only two winters i've ever used and they're both very similar to me.

I have had blizzaks before they were also good, probably better in deeper stuff.
But after 50% tread wear is gone they lose alot more traction then when new.
When new, the top layer compound is completly different and better. FYI

Bought mine at tires23 last year for a reasonable price.

i was thinking of xice-2 or blizzaks lm25. how was the michelins on ice?

run-flat or no?

also, will 17" be better in the snow or 18"?

Have some Dunlops RF for sale mounted on RIAL Salerno rims. $1200 new. They have about 12,000kms on them or 20% usage since it was all highway. Excellent condition.

No affiliation. Don't know if the prices are great. Just have always had good experiences with these guys.

Redflagdeals.com is a great place for deals.

I dunno... 225/40/18 92V @ $1,020.00 is pricy to me. I priced out a set of WS-60's on Tirerack at $667.00US and that comes to about $736.00Cdn. Dunno about duty as this price is for pickup across the border.
Tirerack has a closeout sale on LM-25's right now at $155.00 each.

Anybody here have used hankook icebears before, I've heard some good stuff about them, and they are on the less expensive side, wonder if they are any good?

Hmm..the guys at Tires23 are not recommending I go with 18" wheels...and are pushing the 17"....

they want 1630 for the Dunlop
or 1850 for the Blizzaks in 225/40/17

mounted with the bmw replica rims.

tax included..

hmm...should i go with them or order from Tiresrack?

Everyone is talking about the expensive ones. Why not the Hankooks. I read that they are less expensive and quite reliable in terms of performance.

I heard good things about the hankooks but a bit on the noisy side.

For my old car, I had one of the less expensive brands. May have been Hankooks...can't remember exactly. But I do recall that they were very bad. Not a lot of grip. But the key word here is "VALUE". They are excellent value. Unfortunately, value doesn't necessarily mean the absolute best performance. It just means good performance for the money you spend...

Go with the 18's 225/40/18, it looks way better and winter driving is the same. Also go through tirerack, I've never had a problem and have bought way too many tires from them!

wow it feels like just yesterday we had the "when should I put my summer wheels on" threads.

I guess time flies... I will also need winter rubber / wheels this year.

More regarding tires

I realize the last post here was 4 months ago but winter is right around the corner (sorry to bring that up)... I just bought an '07 328Xi that has 51K miles on the odometer. I'm going to buy tires before the snow flies and don't have the money for two sets or the room to store anything. So, I'll be buying 16's since that is the size wheel I have. The question is this, will performance tires work well in the winter in Chicago or should I stick with all season radials. I was looking at 215 55 16 "Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus" as a possibility.

If you could only buy one set of tires what would they be?

What if you wanted to auto X on the same set?

Thanks,
Roy

Since it hasn't been mentioned, I do like Nokian Hakkapellita's, currently running them and haven't had any issues at all. Never been stuck and am very confident. Perhaps too confident...I may be visiting a ditch sometime in the near future

I had the Pirelli 210 wintersports on my Maxima about 4 years ago - they were excellent. Just too pricey now for me.

I retract my statement about the Hankooks. Never had them.

The ones I had were Viking SnoTechs. Those were garbage.

My 18's Dunlop M3 Winter sport worked well for the past 2 years/3years already, going on for the 4th year.

But, I heard Nokian tires are pretty darn good in the snow. Going to try them next.
