MSV80 ECU Tuning

Hi. My name is Gary. I'm looking for some info about MSV80/80.1 ECU tuning.
Unfortunately SEARCH did not find anything and I have to start this topic.
My car is 2011 E90 328xi N51 with engine mods. I flashed the Bimmerlabs "tune" but it is too weak (just like the stock one, my dragy told me that ).
Engine mods:
N54 crankshaft (more stroke). Displacement is about 3050cc
Ported head
Increased Compression Ratio from 10:1(N51) to 10.8
Equal length headers with straight flow resonator and muffler (no cats at all)
APEXi cone air filter in OEM box.

In the logs I can clearly see that the ignition advance is too low during all the way to 7k (14-16deg, sometimes hits 18)
AFR is too rich after 5k rpm and hits 11,5-12
Load is low too, about 80-85%. is that normal?

If anyone have the .xml or any other def file for MSV80.1 please share it here.
Thanks

There's no Bimmerlabs N51 tune so I'm not sure what you think you flashed. probably just the stock file, which is why it's the same as stock..

I already know that the bimmerlabs "tune" is not a tune. may be it is a newer version of the current software and that's why it feels "hotter" in some cars.

As a topic starter and author of the thread about Cloned MSV70 can you tell me please does it contain any helpful info about MSV80 tuning?

Thanks

it's not a tune. it's literally the stock file. provided for your convenience.

I just don't have time to add more stuff so I never got around to the N51. But the other tunes for the N52 are actual real tunes.

As I understand if I convert my car from msv80.1 to msv80 and flash the bimmerlabs tune it will help to resolve my problem?

If anyone know can I use X3 3.0si software (msv80.1 272hp)
Thanks

Are you trying to tune it yourself, or are you looking for a tune? If you're looking for a tune, Stage FP is going to be the best bet. If you're tuning it yourself....

I have an e81 EURO 130i manual with MSV80 and the latest dme software is 8608446 in my car. There is a lot of difference between the N51 maps in timing and other maps. Also VVT maps (valve lift).

Attached is a picture. Stock, only milvs and headers.

I prefer to tune myself, but unfortunately I have no definition or A2L and etc for USDM MSV80 and that's why I'm searching for tune too and trying have at least most "aggressive" factory tune.

pretty good AFR and eccentric shaft map! my eccentric have no such a flat log. Im going to try different versions of software to understand which is flatter.
but your ignition curve is not as good at others especially after ~6400. check the oil temp and timing relations.
and what is your Mg/Stroke figures?

I think the stock timing map is pretty conservative.
I already have a StageFP N54 intake flash. I’m doing a new exhaust and after that I do an MOT test on the car. After the MOT test I do an intake swap and flash.
I will add mg/stroke to the next log, as well as add something else useful and delete unnecessary data.

What is MOT test?
You have to add Mg/stroke to analyze which manifold is better for your application. You can understand where is the gains and losses and worth it or not.

have you any def, xml, a2l files for msv80?
I can't find 8608446 flash in my daten base. can you provide 0pa and 0da files of this flash?
Thanks

I don't have any of those files.
A few packets of SP data are on another computer, I can check when I go to the garage.

Last year I asked BMW service if my dme needed an update. They said the car has the latest software.
Now I noticed Bimmerlabs list has 8608648 files. I think it could be newer than the file I have.

These programs can be found on the EURO 130i (N52B30 manual) in Bimmerlabs. These are all stock files, no custom files were found for my car.
US models (128i / 328i etc.) have custom files.

I was in a similar boat. I started to go down the rabbit hole of reverse engineering the MSV80 and identifying the tables but it's a very daunting task.

A few years back on these forums there was a nice discussion on MSV70/MSV80 but now it seems that nobody is open to sharing information anymore. It's a shame because now we are basically in a place where there are 2 people that have a virtual monopoly on tuning the N52 (StageFP, Kassel mostly) and tuning your own DME is not really an option.

BTW I'm not asking to be spoon fed anything - I've spent hours and hours reading the various threads on this forum and others, taking notes, combing through hex in WinOLS trying to find the tables, and I ultimately gave up. It feels silly to spend so many hours re-doing something that was already done, so I caved and just paid for a StageFP tune.

I managed to manually build several hundred maps for the MSV 70 using an old z4 Damos as a base.

At one time I started building maps for the MSV80 but is a little harder. Byte swapping between the two processors is a pain. I only did a few as I really did not have a need.

Good news is the map values between the two processors are identical making it some what easy to locate MSV80 maps one you have a similar MSV 70 file built.
