Got my AP in today, I was so excited! Installed the software on my computer, went out to "marry it to my car" and ROM unrecognized. I downloaded the ECU file and saved it to my computer, then sent the file to Cobb at the address from the FAQ page. It was the only file I had on it so I hope it was the right one...
So ready to upgrade from my SSTT, been on there for like 2.5 years. I just installed a Synapse BOV kit the other day, literally like 3 days ago. I went to remove the SSTT today (for this flash) and noticed that the stock TMAP wire won't reach Now I have to take the temp sensor out and turn it the other way that thing was insanely hard to get pushed in... don't know if I can do it without taking the charge pipe back off Oh well, so how long does this ROM update usually take? TIA |

I would generally agree with this but in my case maybe not others, when it fails the car will not start. I have to try until it works i have no choice. I just tried to uninstall the Cobb AP and it failed leaving the car unable to start. I did get it out of recovery mode after several try's. I took video this time to show everyone the problems I have. give me a few minutes to upload the videos to Youtube and get a link for you guys to see.
EDIT*** just so everyone knows the car runs great with the tune but I have to go in for service so I need this uninstalled asap. Thanks, Jorge Quote:

Even though I'm one of the group of people thats having issues installing the Cobb I just did a firmware update anyways tonight and got the latest firmware update. Is this worth trying to install or should I just be patient as hard as it is and wait for Cobb to troubleshoot? I was talking with somebody tonight and he said it could be an issue with my specific rom and ecu id. Does this help at all or has this already been identified? Thanks.

I doubt that it is a problem with your rom and/or ECU. AP recognizes my rom but there is definitely a communication issue. Rob had to write a communication protocol for our cars from scratch and it is normal that these things happen, that's why it is a beta software for 2007 models. Let's put on our Cobb t-shirts and wait a couple more weeks. |

I agree wait out until Cobb has a fix before try a different tune. I'm just the unlucky one that has to go to get service. as I'm due for my spark plugs, oil,Cabin filter and brakes and I'm getting a new HPFP from BMW because of the recall. I'm just stuck now that's why I keep trying. I might have to get the oil change somewhere else for now. and wait it out for the rest.

I got the same code P2FA3 know idea what it is. But I just got the Cobb two days ago for my 07 zero problems so far, the install was flawless, just the code above but the car is scary fast holy crap. I had Dinan stg1 prior to the Cobb and they are night and day between the two tunes. There is really no comparison and if you are not use to the new power it can be a real holy crap feeling getting use to it. or it is for me rather. I am not sure if i have a grin on my face or a look of fear when i step on the gas now days.

JZEPADA do you still have the Dinan still flashed on your car?

the P2FA3 code is thrown when the ecu detects an incorrect flash on the ecu, so its present when ever cobb is installed. when you uninstall it, it goes away.

No, Th Dinan Flash was overwritten by the Cobb Flash. The Car will always be Dinan and it can be flashed back to Dinan stg 2 by a Dinan Dealer or BMW dealer that supports Dinan. This is what I am debating as well, just have the car flash back to Dinan so I can take it for service, but then I would have to send the AP back to Cobb to have it unmarried to the car. I might just have to go that route. I will try to hold out for a week but chances are Cobb will not have a fix for sometime, considering after they see the issue first hand it might take them a few weeks to find a solution or it can take them a few days, not sure I want to wait it out. Overall The Cobb tune is good and has great power for a stg 1, Despite the throttle sensitivity and half throttle power surges which I'm assuming can be tuned out. These issues where the biggest reason I went with Dinan to begin with and not a piggyback. I'm not comparing them I'm just saying I just want a tune that works without problems, I know this is in Beta form for 07 but I think Cobb still has to work out some of the tune anomalies people are having. I believe Cobb is still in it's infancy for BMW tuning and with time will become one of the top tuners for our cars.

I have had similar issues with others. Cobb flashes to 2% then fails. Rob has been in contact about the issue. He is hoping to get to a similar car to resolved the issue. I am as well like others patiently waiting. I feel he will get this resolved. Rob has been has kept me updated. I suppose since I didn't get further in the flash, I am still able to drive my car.

The only time you are unable to start your car is when the flash doesn't fully go through. If you get to that point on your AP you should you just gotta keep trying. I can't get past 3 percent from the get go. So I'm just awaiting on Cobb to fix the issue. If your that nervous about it you should maybe try going to a performance shop that deals with APs that way in case anything happens they should be able to help out.

As far as I'm aware there are only a handfull people here were able to get it to the point of installation, My AP would fail as it is writting the new flash which would cause the car not to start once it did. After several attempts and fustration I was able to get the car to finalize the tune, but now I am unable to uninstall it or change maps. I would attempt it but I would suggest only trying it when you can reach Cobb (9-5) for tech support.
Thanks, Jorge |
