What aftermarket clutch are you using?

I would love to hear what aftermarket clutch you guys are using and your opinion on it compared to stock as well as how many miles and how much hp it’s held up.

Using the 335is clutch since stock clutch started slipping with 44k miles and a stage 2 plus tune....no more slipping for the past 20k miles or so on a stage 2 plus custom tune.....18 psi with stock turbos if I'm not mistaken. Feels identical to stock clutch....I did use a new stock dmfw but probably could have re-used my original

Good to know thanks! What mods do you have and what's your estimated whp?

When I had my 6 speed car I replaced the slipping stocker with the 335is clutch and a new OEM dmfw. Highly recommended for FBO setups. Felt great and precise but easy to drive. No noise but can hold the power. I looked into the spec clutches but didn't like a lot of what I read. ACT would've been my second choice after 335is

IS clutch with factory DMFW, done 40k miles on previous IS clutch and running around 500HP/650NM

I'm going with SMFW Twin Disc clutch system as for some time now I've been getting misfires above 6k RPM while WOT in 3rd or higher gear. I'm not sure if this will fix my misfire problems, but I plan on unleashing more power anyway, so DMFW (177000 miles on it, still great feel and car is smooth to drive) has to go.

I did the 335is clutch. No issues here with it. Worked great with my full bolt on car

That's the reason why I went SMFW since my DMFW was giving me a false misfire in cylinder 6. I'm running a Mfactory SMFW and Spec stage 3, almost no difference to stock but slight chatter (just raise idle for it to go away). I'm near 600 whp.

Great to hear! I've created separate topic with that question, but no one replied so far.
Thanks again for your input, I hope this will eliminate my misfires.
Thinking about it, it started roughly around my Turbo upgrade and initially was misfiring only maybe 1 in 10 times. After 40k miles and few other upgrades like LPFP it does it 9 out of 10 times.

I will find out in 5 weeks time!
Buying this set:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-N54B3...QAAOSwmPxZ1Cqa

Heard good things about it from few people running 600-700WHP cars and I can get it at a special price as I know a guy who knows store owner. Clutch discs are Luk full face organic and the rest is made in Germany.

Yeah sounds about the same for me, right around 6.5k rpm. Did you happen to check which cylinders were misfiring? Like I mentioned, it would throw cylinder 6 with a combo of 5,6 or 4,5,6. I swapped plugs, coils, and injectors but it continued in the same cylinder. I'm sure the DMFW is your issue as well.

That clutch you linked looks legit, should handle plenty of Hp.

I’ve recently learned MHD has a flashing option to de-sensitize knock detection (which is what’s going on with the ~500hp dmfw misfires). Have you guys tried that setting?

Spec stage 2+, producing 480-500 whp. Grabs and chatters a bit more than stock, but functions fine for a daily driver.

Yes, always cylinder 6, lately 6 and 5 and on a bad pull it will do multiple cylinders 4,5,6.
It usually does it around 6.2k to 6.5k. Today for the first time it even done it in 2nd gear, admittedly on a strongest map I have with about 550HP crank at 20PSI.

I've ordered that Twin Disc clutch and will report back once it's fitted and bedded in.

Thanks again!

Youre running the stage2+ with the DMFW and its louder than stock?

Thats a bit of a bummer. as I was leaning that direction and thought the chatter was just a product of the FW

Im aiming for 450 WHP

Spec 2+ is our most popular seller for typical FBO guys, even some upgraded turbo guys.

If you are pushing over 600WHP consider Spec 3+ or look into Twin Disc options.

I am running Stage 2+, FBO; DP's, IC, inlets, outlets, DCIs, Turbosmart DVs and 335is exhaust.

No dyno but probably somewhere around 450-500 at the flywheel? Your guess is as good as mine - it targets a max of 18.2 on stock snails and I run it with e10.

Running OE DMFW with 335is/550i clutch, with the M3 clutch (no) delay valve. Car grabs a little sooner and more solidly without the stock CDV but otherwise drives and sounds just like stock. Very happy with the set-up, it's been about 2k miles.

I know this clutch is used in the Dinan 550 which is substantially heavier and has a lot more torque than what it came with and holds fine. So I think there is a lot headroom to work with IMO.

Has there been many warranty returns on sthe spec stage2+? The forums have quite a few comments about spec quality. Seems if you get a good one, youre solid, but many are receiving defects. Dunno if theres any truth to this

The 335is seems much better in that department. Provided youre within the torque limits, people seem to love them (plus theyre 1/2 the price)

No warranty claims that we were made aware of. We've sold 100's and 100's with no defects. I'm not sure where you've sourced the information? Perhaps older info from other platforms?

335is clutch is decent but we've seen a few people who wish they lasted longer. Granted everyone has different driving habits and abuse.
