Offset - I don't understand :(

Looking for some new wheels and want a bit more of an aggressive look, so wheels more flush with the body.
Can someone give a quick explanation of offsets. Is a lower number more aggressive? I'm confused. (And a bit thick!)

Is this any different for a deep dish wheel? Or does it not matter?

lower number means wheels will be closer to fender . Doesn't matter what wheel design ,number always means the same (same as width or diameter )

However offset on it's own means f... all . You need to know width of the wheels aswell . And to be 100% sure you need to chose right size tyres too .

Ok cool. Makes a bit more sense.
So what sort of fitment should I be looking for on an e92, without spacers.

Is a 9.5 rear et23 a straight swap onto the e92s marius? A lot of the alloys i have been looking at which are m359/csl style have been 30 minimum and i want as far out to the arch as possible without mods

There are a few threads mainly on the US part of this forum that have tonnes of pics with aggressive fitments, along with wheel/tyre specs to give you ideas of the drop-wheel style/spec-tyre combo that best suits the look you want.

Trying to get an agressive look without arch rolling/trimming or coilovers (for more neg camber at the front) will be tricky though.

Ive got 9.5 et 20 at the front and 10j et22 at the rear. But i had to buy coilovers as the fronts were a long way from fitting, and the arches had been rolled and trimmed already

Let's say that we have two ET30 wheels, one is 18x9 and the other 18x8. The same offset does not mean that both of those will have the same clearance from fender, right? 18x9 will be closer by 1/2" than 18x8, yes?
