Parked and saw a little steam popped the hood and seen the connection hose to expansion is no longer holding a proper seal. Squirts of antifreeze on left side. Replace and we should be good. Should be cheap yeah?

Funny you mention that as I look at other platforms and their part and it’s much more robust lol

You know that plastic line that likes to crumble apart? Yeah, BMW decided to use more of it on NA engines to pinch a few more pennies. Strange because I think most of our cars came with the line with more rubber that is now designated for the N54/N55 only.

Went for a look on break. I want to say the cap is definitely destroyed. This would cause a rise in pressure and force coolant out from the connection where the hose and tank meet??? Inspected all areas and that’s the only leak spot right where upper hose connects, no cracks anywhere and no dry rotted plastic. Simple extraction of broken piece and a new cap and we are worry free? Thank

Oh you can definitely feel just how week it is. Tapping it seems as if I would make it explode lol. You think a retrofit would work?

I have the plastic Mc Donald’s straw only under the intake , the remaining piece is rubber hose

I bought some aluminum pipe which I use to replace the hard plastic line, once it fails. I got it from McMaster carr

That line has an o ring in it.
You’d need a new line or new o ring.
The plastic part that always fails is the one above the radiator fan. I’ve replaced that part with a copper tube.

As far as the cap goes it’s broken isn’t it?! That piece stuck in the expansion tank should have been stuck to the cap if I’m correct since my kalt level floater is clearly under that piece plus I wouldn’t be able to fill with it stuck in there.

Hate to say it but likely best to replace all three. The cap, the line and the tank. Be done with it.

Yea the cap is broken.

IF you’re replacing the entire line that goes all the way to the radiator hose, get a new rad hose too.
The nipple on that rad hose almost always breaks when you mess with it.

And probably a 50/50 chance of breaking the radiator fitting at the same time.

Ask me how I know...

Have never broken a radiator fitting.
But I have dealt with some stubborn hoses that felt like the radiator was going to break. LOL.

Want to know pain?
Removing an SULEV radiator fan to replace tensioner and cracking the radiator when re-installing the fan. $650…

Cap put on. Expansion tank comes in tomorrow from dealer so I’ll put new hoses tomorrow. I do like the updated cap I got with the fancy yellow markings lol

What are all those loose wires running through the engine bag and where is the cover?
