There was a faint green stain on the exterior of the fan wiring bundle at about the midway point on top of the radiator. I peeled back the outer insulation and in noted a small path of corrosion on the signal wire. As it turns out it was completely corroded and not therefore not conducting to the fan. I cut it out at soldered the wires back which fixed my fan issue and 2EFE code.
Good job finding something so obscure. It almost looks like someone had stuck a test light on that wire looking for voltage at some point.

good job tracing that down!....a mechanic probably would have thrown a new fan in and told to you to go home as "its good to go"....only to have it reoccur on you...

next you would have needed a new computer module, temp sender, cooling fan sender.....

I'm having a similar problem. My cooling fan won't turn on either. My car overheated in traffic a few days ago, and the fan never kicked on.

I have the 850w PPK/335is fan and wiring, and have just installed a brand new unit.

Water pump and thermostat were replaced in the spring.
No codes.
All fuses and relays are good.
Wiring harness appears to be fine. I peeled back the insulation tape, and found no issues with any of the wires.
I am getting 12v at the harness. And the signal wire (black and blue wire) is getting a static 4.4v from the DME
Coolant temp sensor appears to be working fine (unplugged it, and the car ran horribly)

Any other ideas?
I've been beating my head against a wall for a few days now
