I'm going to be looking into it as well - It appears that you could buy the kit for around $650 and then it's plug n play...

Look, bimmernav offers the kit for $700 so it is not going to be very expensive to install. I am continuing to investigate if the kit can be any cheaper. The kit btw looks very DIY.

Can I install the bluetooth modlule after delivery.....

after i have taken delivery of my new car?

I am about to take delivery of a 335d coupe with lots of extras but i did not order the bluetooth module!

When I had a car on test drive, I used my phones in the car (an Imate SPL and an Orange SPV 600 worked great by the way) and i would be happy to use the bluetooth radio on its own (with Idrive integration basically) and quite frankly in the UK the coverage is good enough that I dont need the aerial, cradle and charging etc??

Does anyone know of a way to install the module on its own so that I can get bluetooth into Idrive and the car??

thanks in advance

You need all parts. You need the mic (of course), the BT antenna to pair the mobile with the module and the eject-box (because of the button) to connect to the bt when dialing a number with the phone.

I guess I am the Guinea Pig...

Well, I purchased and installed the Bimmernav.com E90 Bluetooth Upgrade for my non-SOS 2006 325i a week and a half ago (manuf. 08/05). The DIY instructions that came with the kit were pretty straightforward and other posts on this site helped with things like removing the back seats (Torque T50 required) and removing the front roof control center for the mic install. I decided not to install the center console eject box (the inserts were too pricey) which enables use of the car's cellular aerial "sharkfin" antenna and built in charger.

I went to my local dealership and asked for them to re-code the car for the new BT module which they did for .5 hour labor ($50). I picked the car up and the bluetooth functionality worked great but I found that the Voice Assist (which is the prime functionality that I wanted) is in the German language. I drove off and contacted Martin @ Bimmernav about the problem. He insisted that English IS an option and that the dealership simply did not code the MULF/Vehicle correctly. With this info I returned to the dealership to have them re-code the car again. After leaving the vehicle there for a day and a half and receiving an extra 1hr ($100) bill the BMW Service department told me that English would not be possible. They said they even spoke with Martin's BMW contact and also BMW NA trying to resolve the problem (who was not eager to help because it's a Euro MULF). They also stated they have no plans on supporting user added OEM parts (Euro especially) in the future.

Now I'm getting worried and upset. I have contacted Martin @ Bimmernav again who still insists that English IS supported and they are simply not coding the car properly. I'm out $150 in labor costs for a non fully fuctional MULF (since neither my wife or myself are multi-langual) since the Voice Assist is not working for me.

Bimmernav says English is supported on the E90 MULF upgrade and BMW says no.

Basti313 mentions that English is not an option on the MULF earlier in this thread and there is another thread by another poster mentioning the same thing (WISH I WOULD HAVE SEEN THAT SOONER). I am still hoping that the MULF Voice Assist will work in English as Bimmernav says it will but I don't know what to do since BMW says it will not and I'm scared of more labor fees.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A BIMMERNAV MULF BLUETOOTH UPGRADE FOR THE E90 THAT HAS ENGLISH VOICE ASSIST WORKING? PLEASE HELP!!

Here is a response from Martin at BimmerNav to my problem, I have not had a chance to talk or return to the dealership and I'm not sure if they will try to charge me again to try this:

In the E90 you MUST code the language and the bluetooth since your car is different from the earlier BMWs that do not need coding. below are the languages, the default language and the coding option the dealer needs to use based on the language you prefer

SPRACHE //Language variant used by VR system
anlieferung //Default value: German
deutsch //German, SA851 oder SA869
us //English US, US+SA853
italienisch //Italian, SA855
englisch //English UK, SA853
spanisch //Spanish, SA856
franzoesisch //French, SA854
japan //Japanese, SA852
koreanisch //SA867 (current englisch)
china_trad //SA866 (current englisch)
niederlande //SA868 (current englisch)

If you would like US english they MUST use coding option SA853. If they do not, the language will still be the default as listed above.

Try it
The german help for the SSS sais, that you can find in the menu "conversion", which also contains the menu "retrofitting" they used to retrofit the MULF, two menus called "speach" and "speach telephone".

I don't think, that you can change the speach by using another SA number. My MULF was coded with the right, german SA number but still has french language.

Called dealership today and they say that they have already tried the above SA programming when they last had the vehicle and although they could see the choices, they were unsuccessful in coding the car.

It appears that the consensus on the internet forums is that the Euro MULF from Bimmernav will not work in English although Bimmernav says otherwise. I'm left $150 shorter than where I started and still without Voice Assist. I am going to try to return the bluetooth upgrade kit.

Hard lesson learned...

Is voice assist so necessary for you? I think its just a toy and not very comfortable to use...its often frustrating...

Yes, the Voice Assist is VERY important to me and my wife because many states in the US are already implimenting or drafting legislation requiring a TOTAL hands-free (voice recognition) system for using the cell phone while driving. Also it was one of the selling points of the OEM BMW system in the first place.

No, the system is strictly set to German

that suck man I will be really piss off with Bimmernav

however you know that most cellphones have voice recognition too. try to use the cellphone voice recognition instead of the BMW.

I own a samsung A900 and went is pair to any bluetooth if you press talk (in the car case the phone logo in the steering wheel) it will enter in voice command mode. what phone do you have ?

I just bought a 2006 325i today and have been following this thread in the last few days because I really want to retrofit bluetooth.

cookrx7, what is the part number of the ULF you got from bimmerNav?

I have been bugging RoverActive for info about the language issue and this is his response,
"Here's the story. Initially, these kits were coming with European ULF's
which do not offer English as a selectable language. A little while ago,
BMW stopped including the ULF in the kit and made us (resellers) order it
separately to suit the market we're serving. This was phenomenal solution
and because of it I can send you the North American specific ULF which, of
course, has English as a language selection. Meanwhile, BMW still includes
all the proper wiring and hardware in the kit which is not region specific.

I do not offer guarantees against dealer's potential inability to install
kits. There is always inherent technical expertise risk when you retrofit a
non-factory feature, so you need to prepare for that. However, I can tell
you that with the proper ULF there is no reason why they shouldn't be able
to install it successfully."

This is the part number he gave me for the ULF that I would get, 84 10 9 133 329. I can't find it on RealOEM.

I really hope this can be figured out.

I just found that, "84 10 9 133 329" - is the 11th gen ULF for the E46! Not going to be of much use.

Well, the latest info regarding this certainly sucks. I wish a OEM BT solution was offered by BMW NA as an accessory.

I do not understand why this sucks. Both RoverActive and Bimmernav are referencing the same PN for the ULF 84 10 9 133 329 (used in various BMW models). Even though the ULF might not be programmed for English by default, this can be changed.

I think I read somewhere that voice activation only works for vehicles that have I-drive too, so it may not matter for some owners.
