Tires keep losing pressure during cold weather

I've been noticing lately that my tires have been losing pressure constantly, the weather is cold outside but my car is inside the garage. I was gone for 10 days on vacation, I come back and what do I get low tire pressure. My tire pressure is set to 32 psi per the sticker on the door. I keep having to pump air into them every 3-4 days. Is it dealer time?

I think it is around 1 lb loss per 10 degree drop F. It's best to set your pressures outside in the cold as opposed to in a heated garage. Of course in certain parts of the country you may not find your car in the morning.

Make sure the valve stems are torqued enough. I had a leak and tightening the valve stem (by hand, even) eliminated it. Just twist it clockwise. Easy thing to try, at least!

if the temps warm up alot during the day and get cold at night it will cause alot of pressure loss.

Not enough to cause this. I live in area that gets huge temp swings - 40-50 F during the day, 0-5F at night. I don't have this problem. It is definately a slow leak.

I had a loose valve stem, so that's a good point. However, if you look at the design of the TPM system to get the correct torque on the outer nut, you really need to dismount the tire to torque it correctly. It's a dumb design, IMO.

Well, I want to get some stock tires from Tire rack, I don't know much about tires. I want to replace the tire, I am on a lease so it has to be the same tire. What am I looking for?

I don't have the sports package.

You can try doing a water dunk test to see where the leak is coming from. Nail/screws usually have a very slow leak. But then again, temperature changes do cause variations in tire pressure but not to a point where you need to refill it. Worst case scenerio (encountered this with my own car) is if the tires only leak while driving, and retain pressure while off the car (and in the dunk tank).

The tire has a nail in it. I just got it checked out. Do I have to replace it? or can I fix it?

If its not on the sidewall and not to bad, you could get it fixed.

they say for rft's you should never repair them.

that could just be a scam to get you to spend 500 on a tire though.

Nothing at all. Once the new tire is on and adequate tire pressure is added it should work like normal.
