Yea, checked that one today and was impressed. Others have said it freezes too much though...

since the TomTom 930 just came out, you can start getting great deals on the tomtom 920. It's a really great unit that has bluetooth, traffic updates (with extra antenna or the 920T model), sd card slot, Mp3 player w/ FM modulator capability for navigation and mp3's, pretty good battery life over 2 hours, remote control, and best of all the speed cameras. My personal rating for it as a navigation device is I'm very satisfied. I also have a TomTom One 3rd edition, and that one is solid but doesn't read the streets to you. I would go w/ tomtom. Also, their support is great. Mine recently starting acting up, and they're going to have me ship it back for repair or replacement (after the 30 day return period from Amazon).

I "test drove" a Nuvi 200 for a few weeks. It was ooookay, but not better enough than just using Google Maps on my Q9h to justify the additional expense and carrying the extra gadget. I would pay $100 for Garmin software for my Q or phone, but I'm not going to carry around another whole gadget (and charger, if on vacation) to add turn-by-turn directions to Google Maps.
Once Google Maps Mobile adds turn-by-turn direction display, Garmin's going to be hurting. |

I have the Nuvi 760 on a Kuda mount. I also have an 8GB memory card in it for MP3's, with the wire run behind the dash, through the center console and into the AUX jack. With the stereo on AUX, the nav plays through the speakers, mutes the MP3 when needed, and with the bluetooth, will manage your phone calls as well. It's kinda like iDrive with a touch screen and no HVAC integration.

I have iDrive with Nav, but I bought a Garmin Nuvi 350 over a year ago for my wife's car, and I like it. It's actually better than the iDrive Nav!!! (the way it works, but I would love to have an iDrive knob to operate it)

If you have a data plan for your smartphone/pda and it's browser can handle Google maps in larger cities you can get traffic info for free.
If you have a smartphone/GPS with touch screen I cannot imagine wanting to control the mapping program with an iDrive knob. Better yet, if you have a GPS that has good voice recognition, you will not want one that just uses either the touch screen or a knob. What smartphone GPS mapping programs need is better integration to POI info and the georss and KML & KMZ info mentioned above and to info sent via SMS. Better things are coming - do not lock yourself into an overpriced already obsolete iDrive |
