Bluetooth Audio on 335i
Hi All,
I just got my new 2011 335i with the M/Premium/Convenience packages delivered the other day!! I'm a little green to the iDrive, but I think I am getting the hang of it, however, I noticed that while I can pair my iPhone 3GS as a cellular phone, I don't seem to be able to use Bluetooth audio, even if I hit option on iDrive when selecting my phone, and specifically enable bluetooth audio. I asked my dealer about this and he said cars produced in October 2010 going forward can use bluetooth audio, yet I still have the OPTION of bluetooth audio in my vehicle, anyone else with a 2011 335i that can't use bluetooth audio, does anyone know if this is available with an iDrive upgrade? |

I have an iPhone 3G and it connects but I can't get it to play. I've heard it's limited from people that got it to work. Basically lets you play, go to next or previous track and does not show album art. So being it's so limited I don't care to use it anyway.

Just took delivery of my 335i/M-sport/6FL, was built in late Oct, and I have the same issue. I can see the option for it, but the only way I can get music to play (and see album art), is thru the cable. Also I cant see email or anything other than contacts thru the office menu. When I picked up the car in Munich, the rep said that Bluetooth audio is only supported w/ iPhone 4G. I thought that BS since the 3GS (as I have) supports the same bluetooth stereo protocol as the 4G does. What iOS are you on? I am running 4.0.1. Does anyone have a 4G that works?

I've got a 3GS running iOS 4.1, same as you, my wife has a iPhone 4, I might give it a shot, but I know it probably won't work.
I'm a little disappointed about this, I used to own a Mazda RX8 and although the model year I had didn't support bluetooth audio, almost every loaner car I had when the vehicle was ever in service supported it. When I asked my dealer, he told me that cars manufactured after october support bluetooth audio and that it is not a software upgrade. I have heard some people using the aux in port with a Blackberry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway with their iPhones with good luck, with the audio fading out for phone calls automatically, so my solution is probably going to be that. You can pick one up on Amazon for like $30 or $40. |

I just got a 335d last week. It has bluetooth audio that works only if it is deleted and repaired each time the car is started. That is when using the Droid X. Such a pain to do it each time. Tried both my brother's I-phone 4s, and they worked flawlessly. Does anyone know how to make it work consistantly with the Droid X ??

I have a post 10/2010 build 335i with an Iphone 4 - and YES, it absolutely works with bluetooth A2DP streaming. You definitely need to follow the directions in the manual as its not intuitive to get this working. Also correct that you cannot see album art etc on the iDrive. I hear that you can advance the track on the steering wheel, but i haven't tried that yet.

+1 on above. Follow the directions in the manual - you may have to try a couple of times to get through the process successfully. I use Bluetooth streaming primarily for podcasts because I have all my music on the HDD. And yes you can advance tracks and adjust volume using the steering wheel controls.

I've got a 2010 3 series coupe (just picked up, took 5 months due to the paint) but was not able to get bluetooth audio working and the manual is no help as it's in French (I'm in France but am English speaking).
I've enabled the music streaming option on the car, unpaired my iPhone 4, re-paired it and I could select the car as the playback source on the iPhone. I selected Bluetooth Audio on the car, could see the iPhone in the list (with Bluetooth music icon lit), but selecting it does nothing, and there's no music (iPhone is playing). iPhone OS 4.2.1. iDrive, Bluetooth on car but no USB 6FL and no 6NF option. Any tips on what the manual said or what steps I could have missed out from those who managed to get it to work? Last edited by iStyles; 12-09-2010 at 05:59 PM.. |

I finally got Bluetooth Audio to work with my 3G phone. Turns out you have to start playback through the iPod or an audio program to hear it which is why I never heard or saw anything. I was so used to 6FL showing me the track names that it didn't dawn on me earlier. It's also pretty lame; all you can control is forward and rewind other than basic volume and it displays nothing at all.
On another note a friend of mine has a SIRIUS XM account and has the web service that he let me access. With a program called "TuneIn Radio" I was able to manually add SIRIUS mms streams to my favorites and can listen to them live via Internet. In short, I have SIRIUS XM SAT Radio in my car now for free! I'm using the Bluetooth Audio to play it. TuneIn Radio is pretty cool, it caches the audio and lets you pause, rewind and fast forward. It also has tons of presets from all over the world. |

I got so frustrated, I just bought the Scosche Bluetooth streaming audio module. I just wrote a new post showing how it works.

It should work with any phone that has the streaming audio profile over bluetooth.

Is anyone still having trouble? I could take some video of setting it up if that would help.
