Add me to the list also. Interesting to see if any change from running lighter wheels and stickier tires. Other changes by then should be 4 new O2 sensors, fresh tranny fluid, and 3-30 maps or whatever else comes out by then.

Added.

Matt, I highly doubt lighter wheels make a significant difference. I'm sure the tires would make a huge difference though (your 60' time).

That is the theory. It may be true that lighter wheels (it can't be THAT much lighter) make a difference, but as I said, I don't think it would make a significant difference. However, I believe the difference in 18" and 19" would make a significant difference (trap speed and 1/4 mile).

Amen on unsprung weight, even more so that it's rotating weight. Easier for engine to turn lighter wheels. We'll see if the info below is true, a few other factors at play also.

"The use of light-weight alloys in wheels reduces rotational mass. This means that less energy will be required to accelerate the wheel. Given that each pound of rotational mass lost provides an equivalent performance gain as a 10 pound reduction in vehicle weight, the benefits of light alloy wheels on vehicle performance cannot be overlooked.
For example:
A reduction in the weight of the rim/tire assembly of 5lbs x 4 (all around the car) is equivalent to a 200lb weight reduction in vehicle weight (thats worth 0.200 in the 1/4 mile)"

I'll be there and my car will definitely be broken in by then. Just curious as to how fast these cars are at altitude, what's the best time you guys have run? 335 or M

.2 sec. sounds a lot to me for only 20lbs lighter.

This may be hard to prove, but if we can prove that you can lower your time by .2 sec. with those lighter wheels only (no drag radials), I'll buy you lunch

Again, I don't doubt you two about lighter wheels help your 1/4 mile time. I'm just saying it's not going to make a significant difference.

You're good at math, but need some work on reading comprehension. 5x4=20x10=200

Again, a lot of other factors going on. I should have borrowed Matt's wheels the last time we were at Bandimere, would have been a good comparison.

lol I didn't read the whole thing.
O well, I could be wrong or you could be wrong (or maybe not as you didn't specify how much these lighter wheels will help you). I'm just saying what I think (again, what I think is not always right).
Borrowing his wheels then wouldn't have been a good comparison as he had drag radials. I hope these lighter wheels + tires will help you a lot though!

Matt #1, I don't mean to talk Matt #2 out of buying your wheels as they are nice looking wheels and is a good deal.

I was just stating my opinion. I am also curious as what lighter wheels would do in term of speed and 1/4 mile time.

It's cool, I'm getting the wheels regardless.

While they do make an NT05R Drag Radial, Matt has the regular NT05 street tire with a 200 treadwear rating. Surprisingly the OE tires have a 140 treadwear rating.

Will weigh the wheels when I get them, but based on the weight info I can find online, the weight savings will be ~32# total (29 for wheels, 3 for tires). Agreed a 3 tenth improvement from dropping 32# of rotational weight seems like way too much.

I'm glad we are in an agreement on something
Please do buy Matt's wheels or he'd kick my butt if you decide not to buy them because of me JK But really, they're awesome looking wheels (his car looked very clean with them).
