Headlight washer diagram

First of all, I am posting this in the general section as it is a rather urgent matter and I wanted to give it as much exposure as possible.

I have just imported my 2007 335i e92 from the US to Spain, and it has been literally a nightmare. Hopefully this will be my last hurdle.

I took the car for the annual Spanish inspection and the only issue was that the headlight washers did not pop up and spray. Here it's apparently mandatory with washers if you have bi-xenons. I am suspecting that the hose connecting with the washer fluid tank has come off. There was a small puddle of water down by the right front wheel after them pulling the stalk for the windshield washers in an attempt to activate the headlight ones.

I changed the pump for the windshield washer not too ling ago, but I was told that the pump for the headlight washer is a separate pump. Is that correct?

I did some research and it seems that not all of the 2007s came with the headlight washers, but I called BMW and according to the specs of my car in their system I do have the headlight washers already installed.

So my question is, what is the easiest way to check whether or not it's just the hose that has come off. I don't have access to a jack or a lift so will have to take it to an indy shop.

Is there some sort of diagram of the system that I can show them?

I'm trying to get this done by tomorrow as I only have a few days left until I leave Spain for work, so any quick hints are greatly appreciated.

Headlight washers only activate when the headlights are ON. I'm not sure what the "problem" is exactly, but I'm assuming it's daytime during the "inspection" and if you don't have the headlights ON, the headlight washers won't activate. If you already knew this, and are still having the problem, there is a fuse (I believe behind the glove box) for the headlight washers. Maybe the fuse has blown or (if there was a previous owner of your car) maybe the previous owner pulled the fuse on purpose. I know sometimes I debate pulling my fuse so the headlight washers won't spray. I say this because even if the pump was bad, or a hose was disconnected, the headlight washers themselves should still pop out of the bumper, they just won't spray. So if they aren't popping out of the bumper, see my above recommendations. If they ARE popping out, just not spraying, then either the pump is bad, or a hose is disconnected.

Hope that helps.

Just got a call from the indy shop. He says there is no headlight washer system installed on my car, which goes against what BMW Sweden (I'm Swedish) told me yesterday when they ran the VIN in their system.

I will have to go to BMW and talk to them, but I've got a feeling that this will not be cheap.

I had a fully loaded 2008 USDM 335i coupe and it was not equipped with headlight washers. It's very possible your car was not built with them

I was going to comment asking if it even has the system. Unless it was spec'd with the cold weather package I do not believe they had the headlight washers.

I would suggest retrofitting the headlight washers over downgrading to halogens. Seems like a cheaper and simpler mod.

The retrofit is about $300 US and can be purchased from BMW.

I will call BMW here in Barcelona in the morning. Looks like the washer retrofit is gonna have to be the way to go.

Thanks guys.

Confirmed, the car does not have it.

Gonna set me back ~$1500 at the stealership. Due to circumstances I don't have the time to go to an indy. Sometimes life sucks. This f-ing import has cost me close to $6k now. Good thing I love my car.

This is getting more and more complicated. I went by BMW Barcelona today and they only sell the parts for the headlight washer system seperately=expensive.

Problem number two is that what's called the FRM/footwell module in my car will not operate a retrofitted system. I need a new, blank, module which will then be reprogrammed here.

According to BMW in Plano TX I can buy this module in Europe as it's not region specific and in their system it's labeled as an EEC (Europe) compatible part, but the guys here in Barcelona says the module needs to be bought in the US. Not sure who to believe.

In reference to the post above saying that BMW sells a kit for the headlight washers, BMW in Plano says they do not sell an entire kit. I did get the option code for this system though, S502A.

So my question is, is there anyone in the US selling a complete kit for a pre LCI e92? Or am I forced to buy them part by part?

I thought the headlight washers are controlled by the JBBF, not the FRM.

I have found a good indy mechanic who will do the work for me, including the coding to make the washers work. He will buy the parts from BMW in Barcelona.

Now, the one thing which I could really use is some sort of tutorial/instructions on the job itself, as he has never done this before.

Any leads? Any official BMW manual on this which one can access?

My mechanic is trying to figure out if a complete kit for an e90 will work for my e92, as it will be cheaper to buy it as a kit vs individual parts.

I'm guessing, except for possibly longer hoses, it should not be a problem. Is the e92 bumper wider than the one on an e90 requiring different length hoses?

How did this go?

Old post but I'm fairly certain this is incorrect. The head light washers operate with hydraulic actuatation from the water pressure, they aren't motorized.
