iPod connection alpine most not working

I have recently bought an E91, it has idrive and came with an iPod connector in the glove box. After a mooch around i can see it is an alpine most interface. The problem is i does not work. I have checked in the boot and noticed the cd changer is unplugged and there is no cartridge. Will this make a difference to the lead or am i being silly? How can i get it working?

If there's a break in the MOST link then it won't work. You can probably get a terminator for the connection in the boot if you aren't going to put another CD changer in there.

I thought the MOST loop linked so if one thing doesnt work. None of it will?
Is there a way to test if its working? With a multimeter or Plugging the laptop in?

Yes that's what I said, a terminator will be loop linked. Not sure how to test it, sorry.

Ok cool. So i ordered a cd cartridge and it came today. Inserted it and plugged the cd changer back in. Only problem is on the idrive screen the cd option is still greyed out?
