Has anyone with a 335i recently received the LET tune? Can I ask at what price? Their canned quote seems to be $449?

Still appears to be $449 for the 335i. I may just wait until Spring now and see where they and others are.

Well I just got some new info on WHY the tune hasn't been lowered in price.

Apparently (since I don't really follow the FI crowd) the PBX is the same as JB3 in the respect that it is taking a map and overlaying it on the ECU's original maps, therefor "tricking" the ECU into running the modified map.

The reason why the tune is still more is because they are actually taking the original ECU map and modifying it, which apparently is a lot better/safer for the cars engine. That combined with the removal of the top speed limiter, it seems that the LET/Eurocharged tune is considered to be a lower risk and quite possibly much smoother way of increasing the power output on the car.

I guess most of this is kind of "stuff you kinda already knew" but I thought it should be at least said. I know the PBX has gotten a lot of interest, and deservingly so cuz Burger has a great reputation. I just am not sure how safe the PBX will be in the long run and I personally would rather have the ECU map modified than tricked to increase power.

I also know being able to take it off for service is a nice bonus (and resale) but 1. I plan on keeping my tune and $449 for what I am getting over a few years is nothing when you really think about it. and 2, since the power increase is still pretty modest, the need to take it off for service really isn't much of an excuse. I could understand that if we were gaining 50hp from this thing and when the tech pulls away in your car bound for the shop, he realizes there is a lot of power in this car it would raise some red flags. Thats not the case though, 10-15hp isn't going to raise any eyebrows to someone unless they hit the highway and go through the gears a few times.

Anyway, like I said, just wanted to put it out there.

Just to clarify that point...I was playing with my pbx the last couple of days and you can reset it back to the original mapping. It'll stay at that mapping every time you start the car until you decide to change it. That means the tech won't even know that the pbx exists when he jumps in. Unless servicing requires access to the ecu you don't actually need to take it out when you go in.

yeah i understand that but I think the appeal to a lot of the piggy back stuff is that you can actually take it off if you are nervous about "getting caught" if one was so inclined to do so. Whether you turn it off or not, there is still physical evidence on the car to suggest the ECU has been altered. At least that is what several people I know say about stuff like JB3 on the 335i's.

I was just saying since the LET/EC flash isn't a physical product, there will never be anything actually on the car that will raise any suspicion as to having altered stuff associated to a piggy back system.

If the dealer plugs into the ecu to check it or reflah, they won't notice the LET maps at all?

They will if they know what to look for specifically. Usually when they do a re-flash or upgrade, they just do it without really poking around.

nope and I've done it. Only way they can tell is if they go in and check the coding (which would take them about 10 hrs of labor to check all of it) so I would probably play the odds on this one that a dealership doesn't want to waste 10 hrs of labor and pay to a tech to do this... if the techs even know HOW to. I would think maybe only 1 or 2 per dealership would know enough to be able to even get as far as finding the coding.
