42, but I am sure I can kick the a$$es of most of the young punks on this forum

This is my third BMW. I started with a malaga 1974 2002tii, then had a resedagrun 1979 e12 (528i, the 'first five'), and now onto my monaco blue 2006 330xi.

23, Just picked up an 07 335is over the weekend after starting a new job. Too bad it's been dumping rain for 4 days in a row so I've had to keep the top up.

In the past I've had an e36 325i, e30 332i, and e39 540i. But this is my first model with under 100k miles!

Just a word of experience from an "old" guy (I'm 53). If you're young (say, under 25), it'd be a lot better for you to spend you money paying down student loans or saving for a new home. The reason is simple - 99% of cars eventually end up in a dump, meaning they are a depreciating asset. You want to invest your money in your future - things like IRAs, 401(k)s, homes, and debt reduction.

This is meant in a positive way - absolutely no disrespect intended.

Interesting comment. I'll throw in my $0.02. BTW, im 29 and just looking at getting my first BMW in the next couple weeks...e90 335i.

Yeah, the financially seemingly logical thing to do is to put all your money towards student loan debt and paying off your house, etc. I had this same dilemma last week. Do I spend $15k on a BMW or do I spend $1k on a 95 honda civic and just drive that until all my student loan debt is paid off?

I did the math and I could save 3-4k in interest over the next 5 years by buying a shitty car and driving that. To me, it's not worth it. You only live once and if you are an enthusiast and passionate about driving and modding cars, this is your hobby and 5 years lost by driving a POS in the name of $4k saved in interest is not worth it.

Plus, there is a mental thing by "investing in yourself" and buying a nice car. It pushes you to continue to do well in your career, improve yourself, and keep moving up. One could speculate that could be financially more valuable than lost interest money...in salary increases.

Its a spectrum. The most financial sense is to graduate college, find a job, drive a moped and live in your parents basement and just save and pay off student loan debt until its gone. Those years spent living a crappy lifestyle need to be considered. You can always make more money, but once time elapses its gone.

Just a thought

Any of you youngsters old enough to remember Sammy Hagar? If not, take a look at this:

True that but I have no student loans neither do I have debts. It's all paid for of course with help of my parents (no shame and I'm thankful),my well paid job and sports scholarship.
