Getting her drilled

Ok folks. The sad day has arrived....I take my E90 in tomorrow to get the front plate drilled into the bumper!

Its time for me to take care of that fix-it ticket...what a stupid law. I feel like I am taking in a pet to get spayed/neutered!! LOL!

Well...next time I see any of you...the front will now be defaced

you don't need to get it drilled. you can go to bmw dealer and ask them to give you the front plate kit, the kit can be screwed on below your bumper so you can have a license plate without holes in your bumper.

Could you elaborate on that - I'm confused on how you can affix a plate without screwing the bumper.

the license plate holder has hooks that wrap around to bottom edge of the bumper to make sure that it is aligned. i think sunchild means attach the holder and then place a screw or 2 going up towards the bumper from the lower edge so that the screws will be perpendicular to the ground rather than parralel with it. i hope that makes sense.

It's done.

I just could not keep up with the cops around where I work, or live. Here is the run down of the last 3 months.

1. Pulled over once and got a fix-it ticket for no front plate (let me off for the front tint).

2. 3 Metered Parking tickets for "no valid CA front plate"

3. Pulled over for moving violation "failing to yield to pedestrians".

Sucks....but I will deal with it.

can be screwed on below your bumper

I tried to figure that out...but seems like it would not hold flush to the bumper. There seemed to be a gap at the very top...so I took a big sigh....and after the dealer service guy showed me how he would do it...

I took the screws and did her myself at the service drop off area....

I will leave it on for now. I might consider doing the bumper filler thing later...a la NatureBoy. But I just need some time to let the bad karma (cop magnet) that I have been sporting as of late, to wear off for a bit. to CA laws...just a freaking money making scheme. :finger:

Of course if you have a green plate, you don't have to worry about it in Massachusetts.

Well, I'm happy you like the look of having that horrendous thing on your car. I like to try to keep it clean of ugly things like that.

It seems that people really get upset about having front plates in the states that require them in the US. I've always wondered, do people from European countries have the same feelings regarding front plates? I have yet to see a european car (at least in pictures) without a front plate.

I have lived in states with and without a requirement for a front plate. And, honestly, I really don't mind having one. Since I have a fairly strong cover on the front plate, it actually gives me a bit of protection from bumper taps (parallel parking).

Euro plates are better looking IMHO, because of their width- plus they just look cool. :P
