Spent another few hours on the car, have now finished fitting the outlets and put the intercooler back on
Will finish up fitting the heat shield tomorrow night and then finish the DIY thread Pics of the intercooler, the installed outlets and a closeup of where I had to join the 2.5" outlet to the 3" intercooler inlet |

Fitted the outlets and heatshields yesterday, managed to fit both heatshields (original and RB Turbo version) was a PITA to get them lined up but worth the persistence as all of the wire runs and mounts are still available
There are some bumps in the original heat shield but the RB version deforms around those as you tighten it so all good PIC 1 Heat shield from above PIC 2 Heat shield from side on |

Also fixed my oil leaks yesterday, once again this forum is awesome, you'll find lots of posts about DIY oil filter housing gasket replacement and that's where the oil (hopefully all but at least the majority) was coming from
Also replaced the top radiator hose as somone had made a mess with the o rings |

Great progress Hops. Don't forget to clean and paint your hubs. I used CLR, degreaser and a scotch brite to clean the rust off, followed by a copper brush on a drill. Cleaned it all with mag wheel cleaner and water and then a quick spray with wax and grease remover. Taped it up with some news paper and two coats of heat paint. I am sure you know all this already

Did some more on the car today, painted my wheels gloss black, I figure the silver car with gloss black highlights is the way to go, they came up pretty good too

Also tried to fill and bleed the cooling system, tried because it leaked all over my garage floor from the coolant hose that goes into the head where the thermostat is.... AAAAARRRGGGHHHH, my son removed that pipe when he gave me a hand with the oil filter housing, he dropped the o ring and didn't notice and put the pipe back on without it, he also didn't notice that the pipe was broken where it fits into the head, so now the car won't be running until I get a new hose
I found the o ring sitting on the serpentine belt behind the turbo inlet, but even with the o ring the hose doesn't seat properly and the whole thing looks like its been bodgied up before, with an extra piece of plastic stuffed in there to try and make it fit and since the guy I bought it from always took it to mechanics, its another example of having to know your mechanic does a good job I've traced the pipe down and have no idea how to get the lower end off so that's going to be fun...: |

There is a metal flange that is available to replace the plastic one that corrodes away. Is pretty expensive though Link below http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182218057...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT |

Thanks Socks, if the local BMW dealer doesnt have a hose I'll buy one, might even buy one anyway and put it in the spares bin to replace the plastic crap if/when it fails again
Will grab a hose tomorrowif they have one as I really want to get the car back on the road asap |

Pulled the thermostat out so I could get to the bottom of the problem hose, PITA of a job but worth it to get it all sorted
PIC 1, problem child, this is just under the oil filter housing, and a bit towards the center of the engine PIC 2, Water pump from bottom, you can see that I've removed the 2 bolts that hold the thermostat in place PIC 3, The broken front of the hose PIC 4, Thermostat removed from the car PIC 5, offending hose, O Ring and extra piece of plastic PIC 6, From under the car you now get a good view of the front turbo, it wasn't this clean, I cleaned it up since I had access |
