Project 2014! Recaro, 1M, and NBT retrofit!

Hiya people,

I'm not new to the forum but can't say i'm very active neither. Thought that I should start my own thread so here it is. Not quite a build thread tho, just wanted to share something that I proud of on my car to all you good fellas.

It has been a long time since I bought my e90 LCI from my local dealer, not some powerful beast but it's the first car of my own, under my name not my folks'. And I don't care how often ppl telling me that cars are supposed to be female, but my car's a dude for sure, more like a little bro to me, car's name's Dino btw, not because of ferrari.

Although I kept Dino as stock for a long time for the warranties' sake, only started mod the car earlier last year. Always wanted to share my build thread like everybody else here since then, but I realise couple of aftermarket m3 body kits are just nothing special at all. Then I made a plan and started save up from my internship's salaries for some decent mods for like almost a year time, I called it "the Project 2014".

Project 2014 is mostly about "looking aggressive" tbh, now let's start from there. So I always wanted a 1M styled front bumper, since the old M3 style on Dino is a bit played out and I actually start getting tired of it after a year time. A newly formed company based in the California named 'Scorpp' caught my eyes. The products on their website look pretty neat and decent with some installation picture demonstrated. The only thing that holded me off was the material, cause for a grand big bucks you'd expecting polyurethane. Meanwhile, I have a friend from highschool in canada was about to make his purchase on this bumper as well. He then told me after he had it installed, that I have nothing to worry about, the bumper's definitely not some cheap material to his eyes, it's not as flexible as polyurethane but the fitment per se is awesome.

So I did a little research and after heaps email communications with one of their co-founders, I decided to pull the trigger and go for it. I ended up got a 1M front bumper with CF vent and a double sided CF bonnet.

The waiting period was a pain in an ass, but overall it was a pretty pleasant transaction. And it totally worth all the waitings and efforts at the moment I saw the products myself. They are true fine craftsmanship and very delicate details. Since the fitment of the bumper is just perfect, therefore the entire installation process was way easier. The double side CF bonnet is a brilliant work too, I have both of them painted over to match the colour of my car. It was Axel from VCDC did the painting job, the best painting shop in the town btw. Axel said himself this scorpp CF bonnet is one of the best he has ever seen. The finish of the bonnet is just flawless.

For me, I just love the fabulous aero dynamic design, and those CF vents shines beautifully under the sunlight, also I love that how I can show off to my friends about the CF pattern when I lift up the bonnet! haha

But what truly surprised me is how well the bumper holds up in an accident that happened to me last month. Like I mentioned before, I had my doubts on the material of the bumper since it's not a polyurethane, which means it might easily got cracked in an accident. I then learned that the material they used on Scorpp products is actually something called Vacuum Infused FRP. But hey I'm a law student you see, I ain't no material science student, I don't really know much about the differences of these materials tbh. However, no matter what name of the material they put on the label, the quality of the product speak for itself. So long story short, the vaccum infused FRP 1M bumper survived in a 60km/h impact, not a single crack, just a huge area of dents and scratches. The mechanics at smash repair shop were quite shocked as well. I wrote a post with details of this accident and some pictures at another thread in the forum, so if you find what I said is hard to believe, then please, be my guest and have a look yourself by all means.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...5&postcount=55

I can keep talking about how brilliant this bumper is all day haha but I think it's better to show you some pictures that I took during the easter break.

I also did a major upgrade mod during easter, the NBT retrofit for e9x! Thanks to Stu from BMR Autowerks, helped me out big time on the installation. The marvelous thing is from Bimmer Retrofit in Canada. These guys over there sure know what they are doing, they respond fast and they can easily solve the problem that involves with coding and CIC computer related. The NBT retrofit is officially released, but still in Beta testing period, they offer Beta testing special price, and free future firmware update to perfecting the system. From what I experienced so far, about 90% functions are working as a charm, will definitely open another thread to talk about it later when I have a more comprehensive experience.

As for the interior, I got a pair of Recaro CS Sportster racing seats from Andy's autosports, shipped to Sydney, retrimmed to match my original interior colour, then added a set of BMW oem electrical lumbar support kit on each seats for about US$6k all together. I know it sounds pretty pricy for you fellas in America, but it's quite a good deal for aussie peeps, since pretty much everything here has a doubled price compare to yours. Yawp, welcome to 'straya! Got my M3 gearknob from Roger@MotiveMods in Vegas, the best customer service I've ever known. He told me to call him up 24/7 if I have any technical issue with his product, and he actually picked up my phone call once, at midnight american time! <--- dude is just cool like that.

I didn't do much about the performance....yet! But so far I did got GruppeM air intake with that bling bling CF box, it sounds way too good. Nashin BBK and BC BR Coilovers courtesy to Stu from BMR Autowerks and Peter, Jeff and Bill from Advan Performance.

Also plenty of other mods here and there which I'll make a list and include them in the pictures later, i.e. M3 wing mirrors, M3 Carbon leather center console trim, and dash trim. Custom made steering wheel from Autocarbon in Germany. F30's ///M Performance foot pedals from local dealer and fits my E90 perfectly, and ///M Power ebrake handle etc.

Last but definitely not least, Project 2014 won't have today without a bunch of cool peeps helped out. Thanks so very much to Stuart@BMRAutowerks, Peter@Advan, Axel@VCDC, Scottie@Scorpp Designs, Roger@MotiveMods, Kate and Vlad from BimmerRetrofit!

Looks good man. I wish Scorpp made that 1M bumper for Pre-LCI E92. It looks awesome!

Thanks man, the recaro seats are from Andy's auto sport for about $1200 each +shipping, it was christmas special tho. I recommend you call them up yourself instead of just order it online, so you can perhaps ask for a discount and stuff

Oh ok, well damn. That's a lot of work my friend! Is it a 335?

My favorite part is the interior... those recaros look like they could be factory installed!

Nice car! First thing I thought was that you must be a very successful Aussie! I know how expensive those cars are over there, plus all the shipping you must pay to get parts. That custom plate alone is a quite a sum, isn't it? I remembered when I told my buddies over there I had a 2006 330i a few years ago and they thought "Wow, are you a banker or something?"

Wow! the CF parts flow well through out the car including the Remus CF tips. I'm not a fan of the 1M bumper (on an e90), but have to admit looks good. Congrats on the build, well done !

Honestly probably one of the best cars on here in my opinion, you covered the gamut of mods from interior to exterior to functional computer upgrades!
