Easy mod and quick. It is HOT out and all parts slid back in place like melted butter Going to a party and will try it out in a couple hours.

Just did this to my car and I have PBX in it which really show the charcoal filter delete mod really works.
Def a improvement in accelertion and fuel burn overall, esp WOT it pulls harder now. Filled up my car and the 'miles of fuel to go' would start counting down from 345 miles, now it does it from 375. Can't believe the charcoal filter was restricting the airflow so much it was like choking the engine. I checked my wife's new 2010 Honda Accord EX-L V6 intake filter and box, there's no charcoal filter in there or anything close to that.

Is there any advantage with the K&N vs OEM filter? I was also considering putting in an Euro Airbox instead of this delete. But it seems like that and the performance intake have almost zero effect/not worth it.
But did anyone notice charcoal remnants on the OEM filter after removal? My machine has 3500 miles on it, so it doesn't really need a new filter. I am thinking this mod would be even cheaper using the same OEM filter from original assembly etc. |

Sorry to ask a noobie question... I have 07 e92. There's a charcoal filter instead of the regular filter??
Also, where can I get the K&N filter for cheap? I'd really like to do this mod if I have the charcoal filter.. Thanks in advance.. |

Ok, reading all this, I'm a bit confused. Are there two filters? - the ypical filter you find in any car and another charcoal filter for space-age tecnology filtering?. Is there a filter that needs replacing for maintenance beside the charcoal cut out?.

Works like this: Air goes into the airbox, then into the replaceable filter, then passes thru the charcoal filter, then into the engine. The charcoal filter is there to capture backflow from the engine when it's shut down, ie fuel vapors or mist from the PCV system. I don't know why it's worth putting it in there, even my wife's 2010 Accord V6 doesn't even have it.

That is correct, there's basically 2 filters in there, one is replaceable, and one is not.

Thanks for the nice DIY. I just knocked this out along with the intake silencer delete in about 25 minutes. If you take your time and pay attention it is VERY easy!

After the charcoal filter removal, last night I took the car out for a test drive, it did sound a bit more aggressive. |

BTW, after looking at the BMW Performance Intake pictures, it looked not too different than the stock intake box other than one opens on the top, the other splits open.
Did anyone make an attempt to DIY a high flow cone filter into a stock air box? How do you order a stock air box to try a project like this? |

i just did this mod, and my air box still got the zig zag thing like yours, but i think its fine as long as no more fiber of the charcoal filter left.
i didn't disconnect the sensor, cause i can't get it off the connector, so i just take it off from the airbox while still connected and put it back again when i install my air box back. |

Question, so once you take out the charcoal filter right, did you all just replace the charcoal filter with a K&N filter and leave the other air filter in...? (two filters)
Or remove the charcoal filter and replace the air filter with a K&N one. (one filter) |
