1 series M coupe - any interest?
Put down a holding deposit on a 1 series M coupe a few weeks back - anyone else here interested in the baby M?
By way of background, I drove a 135i when it was time to upgrade from my E46 325ci. Almost signed on the dotted line until I spotted a two year old E92 335i coupe (premium selection) and picked it up for around the same price as a new 135i. Fast forward to July 2010 and the chance to get into an M vehicle for less than a new 335 is hard to ignore. I know the spec and price aren't finalised yet, but I doubt I will be disappointed with the end result I can't afford an E92 M3 for a while yet (if at all), so this seems to be a next logical step. I've already met with the dealer and provided basic preferences (ie 7 speed DCT, carbon roof, white etc) but won't get to confirm specs until December or January with an estimated delivery of March or April 2011. Anyone else here know of anyone that has placed a deposit, noting I've been watching the Australian thread in the 1 series forums. FYI some info here for those that are interested. |

Think it would be very sweet, do you know how much they will be pricing the 1 series M?
I would imagine it would be around $130k + ?

Ironically I am planning on doing the exact same thing this weekend (even the same colours!)
Price wise, I'd be hoping for something along the lines of the $115k OTR, otherwise there is to small a gap from the 1-M to the M3? (having said that, I am yet to do any real research) |

That's okay mate, understand completely, should be an awesome car - can't wait to see the specs myself.
All good for the photo shoot, just name the time and place. I should give Anthony a heads-up too so he can bring his white M3 if that's okay. |

Yes ... all good re shoot, will be in touch re timing. Would love to see the M3 as well, that would make 4 x 335i and one M3 as the centrepiece! Mic and I have some good ideas re locations that will suit five cars, we are thinking sometime in September so will email you shortly

Hey Drew,
didn't you just get your 335 this year? Why is a 135M the logical progression from a 335? |

I dunno if it's just me, but I'd rather a 2nd hand low km M3 for the same money. I'm sure they'll be a sweet car though.
What engine are they dropping in the M1? |

They interest me as much as the M3, not just because of cost. Being smaller and lighter is a worthwhile benefit IMHO. And the 1 coupe is a great fit - just big enough for 4 and luggage. I'm excited.

Good points, but the 135i and 335i are only 40kg apart which is disappointing. Perhaps' the M models are different? With the R&D they put into M models, no doubt the M1 will be very impressive - especially with some BMW Performance gear strapped to it. Call me oldschool, but the M3 has a heritage that will be hard to live up to

I've toyed with second hand M3, but am not convinced I can find one in the right condition for the right money. Also the last 135 I drove felt more nimble than the 3 series chassis, leading me to believe the 1 series M will be a heap of fun after the M engineers have had their way with it. At the end of the day an M3 is still the plan for me, although maybe after the 1 series by which point the F30/32 series M3 might be on the market. Am I planning ahead too far here |

I was thinking the 1M might actually end up lighter, or at least not heavier, than the 135i, saving some 130kg. Enough to notice anyway V8 sounds pretty good of course and the M3 looks

M1 would be taking 1 step back from a 335i in my opinion, I would also look at 2nd hand M3 which I think for the $$ you will be paying for the M1 you would get a decent M3!

I dunno, I would rather an M3.
I went the 335 path, as I wanted a convertible (the kids love it) and the M3 convertible was $60k more and weighs so much, I couldn't justify it. If I was getting a hardtop, I would seriously consider a used M3. From what I have heard, it is much more a driver's car than the 335. Even with the mods on the 335 (which may make it faster than the M3), it still won't handle as well, sound as good, have better seats and has too much turbo lag. |
