If you force it harder you can overcome the restrictions mentioned to a point. That point on oem style intercooler connectors is well over 400whp. That point for stock inlets seem to be about the same. People act like your stuck at 350whp if you utilize an intercooler with factory style connections. I think its safe to say the stock intercooler is generally underwhelming but just because the Mishimoto is only 5" and utilizes oem style couplers doesn't mean its only suitable for stock/no mods. Its not an oem replacement part, it is an actual upgrade.
I agree. I think when most run e85 flash the ait comp tables are suppressed significantly as they know how the e85 will burn and deal with the higher AITs.

I could be wrong.

The IC works by having fresh air flow through it. Part of that equation is making sure the air has a place to go behind it. The engine bay is closed off with the cowl and underbody panel to use the low pressure under the car to suck out the engine bay air.

When you take the cowl off, you mess with that air flow. It would seem that you are giving the under hood air another path to escape, but the cowl area is usually high pressure. That's why our fresh air intake is there, and why you see muscle cars with "cowl induction" hoods that are open in the back.

So rather than giving under hood air another escape path, it would seem that you are adding air pressure, which would reduce the efficiency of all radiators(IC included).

Just wondering if anyone has any data on air management with a cowl versus without.
I want to see more discussion on this.

ATM being better then an EVO II Wagner?

By the way, we'd be happy to offer ATM but they have not offered to sell to us. From what I've seen they are a great intercooler. With so many intercoolers in the market, it's hard to say one is the best. They all cater to different needs, budgets and wants. What can be said is most of the ones vendors here offer are much improved over stock. I personally run an ETS 5". That being said, I wouldn't mind running an EVO II wagner or an ATM myself. The ETS 5" at my price point was great value for quality, fitment, performance and ease of install.
I never stated that the ATM performs better than the Evo2, I stated they are about the same level as there is a comparison thread between these two; however the ATM is cheaper than these Wagner ones making it almost impossible to beat for the price.

I was just stating the fact that vendors only recommend items that they sell, going onto threads claiming that the products that are on their shelf are better. I see vendors jumping on newbies threads talking about the jb4 because they sell it, not even a mention of MHD so that the person can make their own sound decision (I know no one mentioned anything about MHD when I compared Cobb vs jb4 around 9 months ago).

This is supposed to be a ULTIMATE fmic thread, so that should include ALL intercoolers, regardless if vendors here sell them or not. Newbies are going to be looking at this thread to make a decision on what to buy and they should have all the information, not just the info vendors give out for intercoolers they sell and "recommend" (because they sell it)

I created the thread and i never said only certain intercoolers are to be discussed
everyone has the choice to discuss and recommend any intercooler they like

827HP on a big Tom IC. Interesting. Check out Terry's forum. I wonder if he'll post logs, I'd be interested to see how the IC was doing.

Any deals on these posted to the UK at the moment, Mike?

I'm about to get Hybrids and want to do the IC while I'm under there.

Cheers,

Our 7" unit is on the record holding 860whp car as well.

We're releasing a larger steppped 7.5" FMIC with a denser/more aggressive fin pack in the next couple months that will be able to handle all the 650whp guys who are running larger turbos.

Here's the size comparison against our current 7".

I plan on upgrading to the AD Engineering IC this summer. I have loved my Spearco (Dinan) but my upgraded hybrids need more air...

Might be a real game changer for people looking to buy a big intercooler.

I've never personally bought a vrsf product but would buy that intercooler if I was starting again.

Stepped core design + 7.5'' deep + 3'' inlets and outlets with a higher density fin pack? You are going to get some sales I think! Any idea when they will be for sale? I will probably pick one up and put the helix on the E90. If the output is 3'' any thoughts on making a full 3'' up pipe/charge pipe?
