In theory yes, but adding more fuel on it's own (by the tuning box) will produce more smoke unless more air is available.

Also adding more fuel can raise boost (and smoke) levels. A lot of diesels only have mechanical boost control via the wastegate.

The only reason i did it on a 2.0d was to boost the low down torque. It took a lot of rolling road tests to get right. Also the new engines with DPF are more sensitive to excess fuel, therefore it's best to tread carefully if you want to avoid a dead DPF.

Well, mine's not a spider box, but I did dyno the 320D:

Compared with JJ's Superchipped 320D:

Thanks for that Cafe.Racer, If we presume the graphs are directly comparable then the tuning box has a better bottom end torque over the superchips by a large amount upto 2500rpm, it would tend to smooth out the torque curve but it appears the top end is 10hp better with the map.

What box are you running then?

What was the lower car on the dynojet plots?

Mine's a steinbauer P-Box. Bit pricey, but worth it it seems. Apparently they do one for the ED engine, but that's serious money and I think they've set the price too high - from memory it's £750-£800 ish for the 170 engine.

The lower car is JJBirch's 163 320D with Superchips.

13 more than 163? You're looking at the whp graph (at the wheels), the crank figure (calculated/estimate) is the lower graph on the top image.

TBH, I've reade people on here taking the measured "torque at the wheels" figure and also increasing it to include losses, but I've always understood torque to be torque, and therefore losses through the wheels to not be applicable
