Sparesbox has a 20% off their ebay store right now use CRACKA20 at checkout would be a good saving off a BW Turbo. If you havent already bought one... alternatively if you have return it and buy one at 20% off

Great build mate, cant wait for the ST vid.👍
I must have got the lemon 335i, been driving like a nana and to replace cams, adjusters, lifters and valves on stock engine.😢. Hopefully turbos, pistons and gearbox hold up.

They love to be driven, just belt it, i hammer mine (with respect) and it loves it.

Most bmw mechs will say the same, they like it rough.

Yeah that's a bit a bit anouying that they didn't!

I would go about it in the following order:
1. Call them up and ask if they have already posted the order.
2. Ask them if they will give you the 20% discount.
3. If not ask them to cancel the order if they haven't posted the order.
4. If they have posted it get Vince to use his eBay account to order the same turbo with 20% discount... so you have minimal downtime with receiving a turbo.
5. Return the turbo you ordered first. Shouldn't be a problem if the box is unopened.

Good luck it would be a nice chunk of money to save!

ST build continued

Beautiful day in Melb and a great chance for Vince and I to make some progress on the car.

Today's mission was to complete the the relocation of the water expansion tank to the passenger side and to mod/install all the coolant hoses.

First off, we installed a 335d power steering bracket and bolted in the power steering tank and the 335d water expansion tank.
Next a couple of new heater hoses to replace one with a leaking connector.

Now with the expansion tank on the passenger side, there is no need to run a coolant line (across the top of the fan) that little hard pipe is prone to failing, resulting in lots of steam and hot coolant all over the engine bay. It's now gone, replaced with short section of hose directly from the expansion tank to the passenger side of the radiator (see pic below)

On the downside, we now needed to run a coolant line from the passenger side to the turbo. Vince came up with a couple of great solutions but in the end we trimmed up the old heater hose, we had left over from the first job of the day and ran it across the front of the engine.... perfect

With all the hosing plumbed up, Vince tried out the new gearbox seal pulling tool that had arrived with the last delivery of parts
Made removing the old seal a piece of cake, although the old seal is pretty much destroyed in the process lol (see pic below)

Finally with light running out, we quickly whipped out the brake calipers, rotors and brake lines ...

Pics below:

Pic 1 & 2 - Tank locations and new hoses
Pic 3 - 335d power steering bracket
Pic 4 - 335d water expansion tank
Pic 5 - Replaces that annoying hard pipe that runs over the fan
Pic 6 - New coolant line from expansion tank to turbo
Pics 7 & 8 - Vince playing with his new gearbox seal removal tool
Pic 9 - Old and new seal. Old seal not looking to fresh
Pic 10 - Notice anything missing??

I kept my stock coolant as well when I relocated it to the other side of the engine bay. Granted I think the 335D looks better.

Brakes off because you are installing a bbk? Why the skirt removal as well?

Is that gearbox zeal known to go bad or just preventative maintenance?

Time to remove those red air scoops.

Love following your build bro!

Was a great day in Melbourne and very happy with the progress we made

Custom coolant expansion tank hose was made from heater hose part number 64216983858

The hose has the same fittings as the expansion tank and is curved in a good way to reach the coolant hose that clips into the thermostat. The other end was trimmed off and hose clamp was used on the hard pipe's hose.

That seal is the gearshift selector seal. It is a very common seal to go bad, although it never leaks out much and most people would not notice it. The oil leaks onto the gearshift rod joint which has a piece of foam in it to take up the backlash. When this is soaked with gearbox oil, it disintegrates and you get sloppy shifts. Best to do the seal and 100% you should use the special tool instead of picking out the rubber/metal seal with a screwdriver

Brakes removed as it reduces weight and the brakes makes the car slow down. This is a feature we don't want on a car that is meant to go fast.

any pics of the foam piece? I wonder if it could be upgraded to a solid or semi solid piece.

I should probably ditch my bbk now that you mention it. silly calipers/rotors and their weight

Yes, the problem is that the gearshift rod joint has a dowel pin that fits snugly in the rod joint but is slightly undersized for the hole in the transmission selector rod, resulting in around 10mm of gearshift play. The play is still present with the foam piece, its just a lot less noticeable as it is damped. You could bore out the hole on the gearshift rod joint to be the same diameter as the hole in the selector rod, and use a new oversized pin, which should make it a lot tighter. Ideally youd want it to be somewhat serviceable as you would need to be able to remove the shift joint to replace the selector seal.

Are you running the FFP sock? Because if you are, that 335d tank will have to be removed again and the stock one needs to go in ^_^ hahahah.

I shouldn't laugh, but I did the exact same thing, 335d tank looks sweet. but fouls the throttle with the new plenum and there is no way to make it fit

If you aren't using it, pm me. coz I prob need one again and I have something that will work perfect for you just sitting here lol.

Not fitting it mate I'm going to sell off the FFP. PI, CP and FMIC as a set. I have not worked out a price yet. Basically have not used anything from ur kit except the manifold so far... turning out to be an expensive manifold !!!!

You win the prize for most observant reader

Skirts are off because I cant get the jack under the skirts to get to the lifting point, am doing a little trimming to fix this
Brakes are off for weight reduction (as pointed out by Vince)
Red scroops wtf so they have to stay im afraid
Gearbox being prepped for auto to manual conversion.. we got about 85% of the bits, but want to get the car running again before swapping in the manual

Hope this clears things up mate
