System is sweet and sounds great! Although there's a couple of issues and questions with my install.

1) Will connecting to the battery be a constant power draw on the battery, thus possibly draining it? I now have to manually turn the radio off all the time before exiting the car.

2) I have connected the unit and paired my phone but none of my steering wheel functions are working.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Confirmed...

USB sticks larger than 64GB will not work.

SD cards larger than 65GB still untested but I'm guessing it will be the same result.

I'm debating just returning my 64GB SD Card and 128GB usb stick and just getting a second hand 7th generation 160GB ipod for about $200.

Jeff, what kind of video playback is supported with this unit? Can we play movie while in motion? Not for the driver of course. For the rear seat center mounted car seat that my daughter sits in.

Yes it will play video in motion on its screen... there is a "brake" setting in the system settings menu. There are also 2 rear seat video outputs for external monitors and a dual zone setting so you can choose what is shown on them.

If you need 160GB then for sure go with that, but if you think your music will fit in 64GB then I'd go with a refurb iPod touch. You'll get all the nice iPod functionality as far as sorting by artist, album, playlist, the album artwork, and still get the instant read times since the iPod touch is flash-based storage. Only $239 from Apple, but I'm sure you can find them cheaper on eBay or on craigslist.

That's the main reason I'll be using an iPod, because the USB/SD doesn't give you the artist search and all that jazz.

Anyways, just a suggestion!

That's good thinking ... thing is, I'm likely to only use this ipod for music, not bothered about other apps etc. Do you think it would be loads slower at accessing the songs etc going for a 160gb ipod classic rather than the newer flash based one??

I use a 160gb ipod, its fast, speed is a non-issue, its faster than the SD.

???SD and USB allow for artist/album browsing (by tags, not just folder directories) BUT that requires your music be tagged correctly and it is a little slower as it needs to sort and index tags.

Cheers Jeff ...

I downloaded Media Monkey the other night to take a look at tagging but it started having a spazz at my memory card thinking there where hundreds of the same song. I'll have another look some time though.

thanks for the confirmation of the 160GB one... might be picking one up later from craigslist for like $120. Then I'll have all my FLAC (fave classic albums) on a 64GB SD or something.

Thinking of getting one of these and a set of the MB Quart QM200.3s. Is it reasonable to pull the L7 amp and run the front tweets and doors off the Dynavin? I have a JL XD 400/4 to power the underseats.

bluetooth and ms-8

1. Is anyone using built-in microphone on this unit? If so, how is the audio quality? I don't like the microphone out in the open like the OP.

2. I have an MS-8 with Logic7 ON. So the echo issue could still persist with this unit? The stock microphone does pick up the echo as of now. I have "all seats" mode enabled in the MS-8 atleast to alleviate some of the time alignment issue which causes the echo. But not perfect.

The built in mic is ok but getting the mic up by your face makes a big difference....If you dont like where I put it I would think you could go further forward, by the mirror/front of the headliner, and it would still work pretty well and be less visible....but ill leave it to others to post their experiences with the built in mic. FYI....I think dynavin is going to eliminate the built in mic at some point in the future....

You will get echo with the MS-8 as you will with any other bluetooth system. Are you aware of the software update that JBL did that allows the mute button on the remote to deactivate the delay processing as a workaround for the echo issue? Its a little clunky but I just keep my MS-8 remote in the storage cubby behind the shifter and when I get a call I just press the button.

Thanks Jeff.

I am aware of the MS-8 hot fix with the mute button. The thing is I chose not to route the display to my glove box or other place in the cabin. So I cannot use this fix. After I calibrated the system for "all" seats, the Logic 7 processing does not seem to cause as much of an echo compared to "driver" alone. So I am using that. By setting the processing to "all", I did lose some bass. But I just upped the subwoofer level in the ms-8 .

It is indeed doable I see, I was more or less getting at that the iPod interfacing is a lot smoother and quicker now, at least seemed to be when I viewed the video on youtube of the N6's interface. Can't remember if the video was made by your or not, though.

Yes, either the ipod or SD will work nicely. The only downside to ipod (and this can be a big deal or not depending on your listening habits) is that it currently does not support a way to FF or RW tracks, and its exclusively audio.

SD and USB will support video, pics, as well as audio, and the "slider" works to jump around within a track. Also allows for a slightly different browsing experience since it has tag options. The only downside here is that it depends on YOU to organize and tag your media correctly, and its limited to 64GB.

Either one works nice but they are slightly different and the SD/USB is a little more flexible.

Hm...that, I didn't know nor have I read it anywhere. So you can't even hold down the track skip buttons on the radio face to fast forward?

At this time that seems to be the case, I dont know if that will change in a future software release or if its a limitation of the ipod interface. Nobody has said anything about it yet so it seems to not be a big deal to most but I DID notice it recently which is why I bring it up here.

And as I said above, if thats a deal breaker, go with SD or USB, A2DP, or aux in.....there are many ways for this to work, finding the right mode to fit your listening habit needs is your best bet.

I personally use the SD card for my music "archive" and my iphone via A2DP for podcasts/streaming and recent music purchases that have not made it to my card yet....I might retire the ipod to my wifes car....
