My new Joying 8.8" project

Now that I've fixed all of the mechanical issues it's time to have some fun with the head unit for my non-iDrive E92 325i.

I think the 8.8" Joying JY-HOS01N4GS-2 widescreen will fit the centre fascia perfectly.

https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-us...th-new-ui.html

The centre fascia I'll be using has a 240mm wide aperture, perfect.

So I've ordered the above head unit and fascia which will take a while to arrive.
Meanwhile I need to find a suitable harness. Does anybody have any recommendations?

I've been considering a Joying for my E92 N53B30. It has the same non-iDrive as yours. I emailed back and forth with Joying a couple times just a few week back, to see what they suggested and make sure I am going to order the right one. You say you're looking for a harness? I thought the Joyings come with everything needed to fit it? What am I missing?

The E90 specific harness is required for the CANBUS decoder to allow steering wheel controls (and maybe other things?). I ordered it separately from Joying and it has arrived. Now just waiting patiently for the head unit which was on back order..

I'm curious as to why you didn't get the E9x specific model?

I’m just not happy with the way it looks. The 8.8” will look far more OEM.

These units look terrible with that bezel plastic surrounding the screen and ac controls sticking under the dash.

The one where you cut the dashboard on the top looks way better.

It’s a very drastic step to cut into the dash, I dont think I could do it and I’m not sure I like the display so high. I will see how my fitment looks. I dont know if it will stick out much or not. Still waiting on the unit to arrive from China.

Interesting unit. Not that I'm in the market for this, but out of curiosity, does this have FLAC playback?

I was all in with that model. Which is the only reason I bought the non nave version. And I'm all for custom. I've hacked up plenty of bimmers 🥴 for the sake of more audio. But once I took ownership of the car and saw how clear it was, compared to how that unit looks when put in.. I was immediately sold on leaving it unmolested. No matter what you do, you can't get that trim to sit 100% flush. Unless you use double sided tape but then that starts other issues. They also aren't very secure. The screen kinda of rocks a tiny bit during spirited driving. The model specific e9x Android units look like pure S***. And I say that because none of them look oem. They all stick out the bottom near the climate control. Dynavin is the other one that doesn't stick out, but they are way too expensive and the interface is dated. I'm really curious how the OP set will look. I've actually been looking at that very same setup for a good minute. So far all I've done is the Most converter and Sony deck.. BIG IMPROVEMENT. Hurry up and pull the trigger OP I'm here for it.

If he uses that trim piece then yeah, it's a high possibility. But if he uses just a single fin trim face than no it won't affect the climate control. Which I think would better a better fit since it is a single fin unit.. everything behind the screen will be closed off. With the double din version there will be gaps behind the screen. Because it's built for 2din. But some CA glue and a lil abs can remedy that.

I'm not sure what you're looking at but no way the joying unit in the first post is single din. You can clearly see it's screen is double the size of just the radio/motherboard portion, which would mean its double din

It's a single din.. I've seen it in person installed in a Honda with a single din kit that was already there. Now of course the screen is wider that a single din but it can be lifted or dropped to fit.. the actual chassis is single din and will fit in any single din sleeve.

I was actually hoping that someone would eventually install one of these in an E90 so I can see what it looks like:
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500ILX....html?tp=72381

I have one of those Android 9 units that you say look like s....lol...and am happy with how it looks. And believe me, I was so worried before install because little things like the CC sticking out usually drive me nuts. But luckily I don't even notice it and everyone who rides with me have been really impressed with the unit.
The one thing I really hate about the Eonon is how low it sits in relation to the drivers eyes. You have to really look down at it to see the nav or anything else. The couple inches it sat higher in my old E46 really made a difference for usability.
I think the Alpine in the single OEM slot with the screen slid up to just below the air vents and tilted slightly back would probably work out great.

All that said, I think the Joying in the single din slot with the trim you linked above may be another interesting option.

👍 The only reason I think it looks like s*** is the fitment on the bottom. Other than that I actually like the 9 inch screen. I'm just one of those "why couldn't they make it fit better?" Types.. 🥴 I saw one on line for 150.00 which would really tempt me. So I may be eating my words one day. Although I really like the way my Sony decks sound. Will be putting my 3D printer to use soon. Trying to Fab a tab mount the works with the dash. If that doesn't work, we will see what happens.

Ok just a misunderstanding lol. Yes the unit is definitely single din, I was saying the screen was double din

Oops...when you posted I took it as 'Android 9', not the 9inch screen unit.
I actually have the Eonon android '9' with the 7 inch screen, and unfortunately the climate control does stick out a little bit even with this. I went back and forth on the 7" and 9" but ended up going 7" because I wanted the hard buttons.
I really believe they would sell more of the 7" screen units if they did away with the outdated dvd/cd player and shortened the head unit like Dynavin has and that way the climate control would fit well.

Still looking forward to seeing the Joying unit from the OP installed.

Well, it is just the physical limitation. If you want to fit a 7" or 9" screen in that slot, there is simply not enough room for the A/C control to not sticking out. One way to get around it is have the screen sticking out and not flush to the trim. This is what the OP's 8.8" unit is designed for, but he plans to put it inside the trim piece that sits flush to the trim, which will be no difference to the E90 specific unit and the A/C control will stick out from the bottom.
