Retrofit bi-xenon ballast dead twice

Hello
I have been using a retrofit bi-xenon projector kit that is mounted in the halogen reflector in my e90 halogen lights.
The light output is great.
Power is piggy backed off the low-beam H7 power plug, so the lights come on when yuo start the car.
This also means that they have the same functionality as the normal low-beam lights.
This works very well for my right side lights, but I have managed to kill two xenon ballasts on the left side now.
Both times it happened when using the light selector switch and setting it to Driving lights from normal.
When switching back to normal, the ballast was dead.
Am I correct in assuming it only cuts power to the low-beam when in DRL position?
I cannot understand why the right side is fine, but left side has died twice.
