Remember BMW Performance V1? What to replace with?

I've enjoyed the Version 1 of this kit for 8 years. Now the shocks are worn. What would be an equivalent shock and strut for this kit?

I know Koni FSD is now Special Active, and that FSD were considered a bit less stiff than the BMWPS V1. I love the BMWPS V1!

Remember, the V1 used the original ZSP springs, and I had to update my front mounts to the 2007 328i equivalent.

So, there was no lowering going on. A shorter damper like the Bilstein B8s wouldn't work. Should I look at the B6? They seem to be unavailable and are quite pricey.

See the thread below for pictures and a discussion of the BMWPS V1. Later the V2 came out and included the yellow springs and 14mm rear sway bar as well.

The B6 is what id go with over the B8 if you are keeping ZSP springs; They make one for the Sport suspension. that would be the only upgraded one I could think of. B4 would be stock.

Curious did your car have sport or non sport suspension factory; Wondering which mount you changed too.

And its funny the perf suspension "upgraded" the rear sway from 13 to 14mm. Why not just make it the oem 15mm rear from the x-drive cars.

My car was originally ZSP. But, it was made prior to 6/2006. So, had to update the mounts since everything was made for the later cars. Below is the quote from the thread in the OP.

I'll be replacing all of the shock mounts too. So this will add up to around $1000 for the B6. Is there anything kit that includes all of those items for less? FCP Euro has a B4 kit. I wonder if they would price out a B6 kit...

From what I understand, the BMW Performance Suspension is only available for the e90 as of now.

If your car's production date is up to 6/2006 and you have the regular suspension then you need the following:

BMW Performance Suspension--(33500429574)
BMW Performance Springs--2 Front (31336788893) and 2 Rear (33536788901) [Check with Evan to Make Sure]
BMW Front Sway Bar--(31356766288)
BMW Rear Sway Bar (14mm)--(33556764426)
BMW Front Guide Supports-- 2 of (31306775098)

If your car's production date is after 6/2006 and you have the regular suspension then you need the following:

BMW Performance Suspension--(33500429574)
BMW Performance Springs--2 Front (31336788893) and 2 Rear (33536788901) [Check with Evan to Make Sure]
BMW Front Sway Bar--(31356766288)
BMW Rear Sway Bar (14mm)--(33556764426)

If your car's production date up to 6/2006 and you have the Sport Suspension (ZSP) then you need the following:

BMW Performance Suspension--(33500429574)
BMW Front Guide Supports-- 2 of (31306775098)

Optional:
BMW Performance Springs--2 Front (31336788893) and 2 Rear (33536788901) [Check with Evan to Make Sure]
BMW Rear Sway Bar (14mm)--(33556764426)

If your car's production date is after 6/2006 and you have the Sport Suspension (ZSP) then you need the following:

BMW Performance Suspension--(33500429574)

Optional:
BMW Performance Springs--2 Front (31336788893) and 2 Rear (33536788901) [Check with Evan to Make Sure]
BMW Rear Sway Bar (14mm)--(33556764426)

So, when you order the BMW Performance Suspension (33500429574), you get everything you need to install the dampers. You get the nuts, bolts, new bumper stops, etc. You even get new rubber bushings for the springs.

Interesting that they added the Sport strut mount after that date and that earlier cars just used the non-sport regardless

I've been trying to find one of these kits. Long discontinued. I'd imagine the dealers must still have access to replacement parts. Or, do they recommend replacing everything if you blow a strut?

Either way, I'm interested in what the op does. I'd like to recreate this set up as closely as possible.

Neither V1 nor V2 of the Performance Suspension are available anywhere. I was hoping to find the original maker of the shocks, which I believe is Sachs. However, BMW did custom valuing for these shocks.

Instead, I am proceeding with the Bilstein B6. I will compare the two once the install is complete next week. However, I’m also replacing all of the shock mounts as well, likely improving stiffness and not being able to conclude it is from the shocks or the mounts. We will see...

Probably B8 or Koni yellow would be the best match.

I would highly recommend BMW M Performance yellow springs and Koni Yellow sport shocks. It gave a decent increase in stiffness and almost no drop compared to stock Sport suspension.

You could also just do koni yellows set at full soft with sport springs if you don't want a stiffer ride. My koni yellows are set at 50-75% with bmw perf springs.

I'd probably go with the Bilstein B12 kit coupled with the Eibach sway bar kit.

So, I went with the B6s, and kept my ZSP springs. Car rides as well as before. This means I still feel the appropriate stiffness from the sports package with the upgraded shocks. Bilstein are known to ride a bit stiffer over mild bumps and undulations. Hard bumps are absorbed very well. Overall it is stiffer than stock ZSP, but not jarring. No perceptible ride height change.

By ZSP are you referring to the Sport suspention option? I thought the B6 wasn't available for that. All the retailers show the B4 is available for standard or sport suspension, B6 for standard suspension, and B8 for sport suspension. B8 is identical to the B6 internally but just a shorter length for the lower sport springs.

B8 is for aftermarket lowering springs. ZSP/OEM Sport springs are not that much lower than Non-sport spring and are paired with B6. My BMW Performance Version 1 did not replace the springs, only the shocks. I have no ride height changes or adverse handling issues since going to B6. Actually everything feels just as good as before my change. My shocks were fine, and replaced because of time and slight rust.
