I've just had to replace my OEM original shocks after 13 years / 210,000 miles

I decided to go with Monroe, under the illusion they are the best

Having fitted them, with new M-Sport springs, I can say the ride is AWFUL - the shocks do not control the rebound so it 'bobbles' down the road

Worse still, I've tried to contact Monroe aftersales for advice and to check I've got the correct parts for my car, but they ignored each of my emails and deleted my request for help from their facebook page. Shocking service - pun intended

The Monroe shocks I fitted were part numbers G8292 and G8293, but my advice, stick to genuine BMW parts

Bilstein B4 and B6 work really well when you're looking for OEM-type ride. I know from experience. Koni are also popular, but I don't know which model that offer's an OEM ride.

Where did you get this illusion that Monroe are the best shocks?

They are the worst thing you could buy, and here in Canada they are sold as a cheap budget option.

Sachs and Bilstein being the two oem suppliers will give you the original ride feel. Bilstein being the better of the two in terms of longevity, as based on e90post feedback.

Have just replaced my shocks. Never saw Monrow as an option when looking for recommendations on here - Bilstein or Koni seems to be the general consensus and i must say i`m very happy with my Bilstein B8's on stock springs.

OP - Can you get yourself a refund?

Koni Special Active is great. Soft enough for my baby to sleep, but retains the m-sport suspension feel. Best of both worlds.

I never knew Monroe was an option, but if I had, I certainly would have known they weren't "the best".
Bilstein or bust. Sachs suck.

Monroe makes quality replacement rear shock mounts, but their actual dampers are indeed low grade.

Monroe is the crummy local parts store option, in most cases.

Sometimes they OEM decent parts, but most times you'll likely be disappointed.

I just got B8 installed with OEM springs (M-sport suspension). I'm still breaking them in, but feels very good so far even on first drive. Ride height is about same when I had the OEM setup.

That's on an M3 though...I don't recall there being THAT much of a physical damper body difference between the regular 3-series parts.

Monroe are terrible. Often softer than a blown factory damper.

All high pressure charged dampers will increase ride height. Due to the high pressure in the damper, you have the force of that pressure acting on the bottom of the valve, but that same pressure pushing down on the top of the valve is lower because it is acting on a smaller surface area due to the shaft. They all do this, and is why they extend when they are just sitting there not installed. If they don't extend, they have lost their gas charge.
