Auxiliary input - hissing

I have a 2007 335i e92 with iDrive. When playing music through the auxiliary input via my iPhone there is a hissing noise when the music gets soft. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this or how to remediate it. At first it wasn't bad, but it is wearing thin.

I'm not a huge fan of the iDrive. My plastic cover is scratched and apparently you need to replace the entire navigation system in order to replace the plastic screen/barrier that is 3 inches in front of the LCD screen. Crazy...

Haven't seen any similar posts for the auxiliary issue.

it could be due to a cheap jack lead. I bought one once and it only ever played out the left speaker, so straight in the bin it went.

If that's the case I recommend you get the griffen flat auxilary. I've had it for little under a month and plays beautifully and can easily go under the clap where the aux port is underneath the middle storage, because of the flatness.

Thanks everyone. Just saw this... I'm going to try the EQ settings before I switch out the cable!

Interesting. What does it actually do? I know it'll fix it, but how does it work?
