The problem you have, is that everyones perception of comfort is different.
Coilovers are invariably on the stiffer side of things, they have to be because rideheight and spring rate are intrinsically linked. If you want to go lower, you need stiffer springs as you've got less bump travel to work with. And becuase the coilovers only ship with one set of springs, they need to provide a set thats capable of running at the lowest setting, thus it ends up pretty stiff. With a fixed spring/damper system, you know the ride height, and thus can set the spring rate optimally. As an example, factory M3 uses 160lb front springs and 550lb rears (the large difference is due to the design of the rear suspension on the E90, which makes the spring work harder) Eibach Pro Kit springs are around 150 front and 450 rear, which is also pretty similar to OEM MSport suspension. Bilstein PSS10 coilover have 515lb front springs and 570lb rears, so as you can see the front end is way way stiffer than stock. You'll find most coilvoers are similar, as i've explained above, they'll be significantly stiffer than even Stock or even M3's spring rates. |

Ohlins are comfortable, the damping is sublime. However as aragorn says lower you go, comfort will decrease.
If you want comfort only, then koni yellows and eibachs are a good bet. Very comfy ride. Edit: Ohlins use 343lb ft front and 400lb ft rear. I'm looking to up the rears to 672lb |

I've had AP & KW coilovers on previous MINI's.
The AP's I had on a R56 / R55 were a good ride, better than the KW V1's I had on my F56 MINI. |

I'm running meister-r coilovers on mine. Aparently they are the same struts as BC (which most people use) but have been re valved to better suit the UK roads.
IMO they are no less comfortable than the standard m sport suspension on the softest setting which is adjustable on the top of the coilover and can be changed in 30 seconds if you wish. |

Yeh fair enough, MSport is over-damped. Which is why the B12 kit is well respected and much more comfortable despite having the same spring rates as stock.
I just cant see that having springs that are 2.5 times as stiff could be described as comfortable, even with perfect damping, becuase those stiffer springs REQUIRE much stronger damping to control them. You can make soft comfortable springs feel hard with crappy damping. You cant make hard springs feel soft with the best damping in the world though... |
