Some noise such as a crunch, grind, light knocking, clicking? I know mine makes a light click at the front when I come to a stop when not in a straight line, read something about this possibly being the tension arms

Is there any feedback through the steering wheel when you get this noise?

its like grinding, like if something needed grease. There is no clicking or so. And no feedback trough the steering wheel at all..

Could be related to brakes? Have you checked the life of the pads/discs? Has the car had any work carried out recently that might've created this noise? Does it sound as though it's coming from one side or the other..or both?

No, I havent checked the brakes. But I believe they were all changed at BMW prior to me picking up the car 10 months back. Im thinking that maybe the fluid level dropped in power steering reservoir?

So does the grinding stop when you're stationary or does it happen as the wheels move forward or is it more to do with turning your steering wheel?

its never when I drive. It is only when stationery and turning the steering wheel trying to squeze my car into the parking space

Mine makes a similar noise, only mine is accompanied with a rythmic knocking, you have checked the power steering fluid level?

I've also heard on other vehicles worn top mounts can make a fair noise when turning the wheel at low speeds, may be worth having these checked over if the car is a higher mileage and you have no evidence of them being swapped or haven't done them in your ownership

check the brake disc protection plates arent touching anything, or anything stuck between them and your disc. is the noise replicated when jacking up the car with full lock and spinning the wheel?

Mine does this too although its an older '06 car, when i was having some issues with the diff making a clicking noise i was searching differential noise and in some of the threads that weren't related to the sound i was getting they were talking about the dif making that noise, i believe some reported that most do that and changing the diff oil helped. However to me it seems like the noise comes from the front when mine does it but i could be wrong. Mine doesn't do it all the time only when i full left or right lock to parallel park and am going slow, at speed - nothing.

I havent had time to look into it yet, but will start with topping up as the level of steering fluid is low...and if it doesnt help than flush it
next will be diff. oil if..

does it make the noise when stationary? If so its not diff related.

Mines started creaking when turning at low speeds or while stationary, car parking and manoevering type stuff, and i recon its one of the top mount bearings that has seized.
