Clutch noise

Hi all,

Running an e92 330d (56plate on 95K)
I have a noise like a grind (not quite a crunch) on derepssing and releasing the clutch pedal. No issues driving the car, doesn't slip, pulls well, gears change well.

It's about half way on depressing or releasing clutch and continues to grind if I hold the pedal there. All seems fine when fully depressed

Trying to figure out if it's likely a bearing or the DMF that's going/gone.

I know this is all rather vague but any one got an idea?

Was planningto get rid of car soon but don't want additional cost before trading in .

Sounds similar to mine when the DMF starting to go. If it is it'll get noisier and noisier but may last for ages still. Think I got about 20k miles out of mine before changing it... and that's on a remapped car which is known to kill them quicker

Ok cool,
HAvingnit looked at this week.
No judder or vibrating etc so hopefully I'll get away without doing the DMF but I'm not that lucky lol!

I'll be keeping the car for a bit longer if it's gonna cost me nearly £1k to fix 😫

if the clutch release bearing has failed/going to.then im pretty sure the gearbox has to be out,so not replacing an aged dmf while the box is out is maybe not worth it,although the dmf can be measured for play, around 25 mm i think is the acceptable amount of play.

Garage List
presume you've checked the obvious - such as the bushes on the actual clutch pedal.

Checking the obvious - nope
I have the mechanical knowledge of a potato so have to be led by others.
I'll have a word with the mechanic who's looking at it. (He's a mate so won't rip me off)

I'd say sounds like a release/throw out bearing. Usually included in a decent clutch kit

Well from what you've said, you mech will probably pick it up pretty quickly unless its sounds different ect

Well all is now fixed (sort of)
Clutch and DMF replaced at a lovely sum of £850

Now have a slight issue with the exhaust - it's not fitted straight and the backbox and exit pipes are squint and it's rattleing when cold - looks like the hanger on the inside (closed to middle of rear bumper) isn't right - anyone got a pic of there's and how it should sit? Can't find a pic anywhere

To be fair that's not a bad price for those two fitted at a garage. At least you know you have a new clutch in there
