Everything is working except this left AHL. You might be right about checking fuses and wires. I dug a little deeper and found that I can read voltage from the right side SMC but not the left side.

So how did you get NCS working? In case others come across the same problem...

NCS was already working. Joe remoted in and downloaded all of the latest daten files. So, nothing really changed, but now I know the problem is not with old or corrupted daten files.

What I am referring to is, I went to ISTA-D and ran the test plan and did some other things. You can go into the diagram, where you see all of the ECU modules, select the ECU, in my case the FRM. You can drill in further and select a component, I picked the right SMC. It was showing voltage, changing between 11 and about 11.5, so I know it was reading actual voltage. I then tried the same thing for the left side and did not get a reading at all. That's why I think I may have received a bad unit or there is something else wrong, wiring, fuse, etc.

I'll see if I can get the exact sequence of what I did in some screenshots later tonight if that is helpful.

I had the exact same problem as you after changing an AHL headlight.

In my case, it was the chipset inside the headlight that was missing from the new one. Part number 10 below:

A damaged or missing #10 results in a failure to code the modules on either side resulting in the "ECU BUSY" error when attempting to code it. This is exactly what happened to me. I bet the part you have is defective.

Did you buy #10 or #9?

That's a good question. I purchased this one here, can you tell?

That looks to be correct. Double check your connections in there too, and make sure none of the pins are damaged or corroded.

The headlights moving up or down doesn't indicate whether you have a functioning AHL module. Even non-AHL ones do that.

So can you code the other module? The one that isn't damaged...

Ok, I was beginning to suspect that. The left one moves on ignition start. I can move the right side by using the active test function, but not the left. I get the ecu_busy_repeat_request error.

I actually can't code either module. But as I said, I can manually move the right side by active test, but not the left.

Your issue is, most probably, at the wires. One of them at least got pinched and corroded. There are no fuses for you to check.

So, first check that, after you entered your key in the slot and pressed one time without starting the car the start/stop button, you have 12V between pins 9 and 11 at the left headlight connector.

Post your result here, and we will check further if needed.

Ok, will take me some time to do this. Probably won't get to it until this weekend.

Well, update on this. So, it seems the first unit I bought did not work. Not sure why, but after further inspection, it looked like it was the right unit, but did not have the exact part number. It fit perfectly, same circuit board configuration, but just didn't work. I went ahead and bought a new one from ECS Tuning, and it looked like an OEM part, same part number. Installed it and voila, it works. However, it looks like it needs to be coded to factory, but the good news is that I can now read from both units. I read somewhere that if module in the left is not working, neither unit will work and you won't be able to read from either. I will SG_Codieren and post results here.

Ok coded the RSMC back to factory defaults with SG_Codeiren and it is functioning properly now. Thanks for all the help everyone, this has been broken for several months now and several people here have offered assistance, including Joe@TopGearSolutions who remoted into my computer to help out.
