Combox Telematics Retrofit Coding - Help Needed
Hi everyone - I have an '06 330xi retrofitted with a CIC unit from 2009. I've been trying to code a combox telematics that I recently installed. I previously had just a TCU with Bluetooth and the AUX port. My CIC firmware is C0D which I realize is before C16 so I believe I will need to upgrade to make use of BMW apps. For now I'd like to just get the audio Bluetooth streaming and armrest USB working.
I have changed the date to #0410 and I'm able to add the following values to the FA - $614 $615 $6FL $6NF $6VC and $7SP. I did not have values $633 $612 and $616 so there was nothing to delete. However, I am missing $644 as I receive a COAPI-1000 error when trying to add $644. With this setup, I have lost my Bluetooth functionality. I can detect my iPhones but once I get to the 'checking passcode' it just hangs up and doesn't pair. Although on the phone, it seems to be paired. Further, when trying to code my FA with SG_CORDERIEN or reset the combox (which shows up as MEDIA), I get a: coapi-2000: ediabas or sgbd error bip-0009 best version error I'm not sure if I need to code my vin via an .ssd file. I created one but was unable to do anything with it as every time I try to do something to MEDIA in NCS expert I get the error above. I'm a little lost here so if anyone can offer any advice I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks, John |

Your CIC needs updating dude. Even if you change the production date you will have many issues because that production date was impossible with that CIC version. You would need to know what the newest production year COD will support. I'd venture to say nothing newer than 09. I have a CIC running C1A which is the newest CIC version and for my combox retrofit I used 0311 for production year and every thing works tits but I had to purchase a FSC code from Benvo for this. I think you would want CIC version C16 which supports combox features but does not require FSC unlock code.

thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've been wanting to upgrade the firmware but it doesn't seem like something I could do without expensive equipment. I guess I need to find someone local? any other thoughts?
Another update, my bluetooth audio streaming is actually working. It stays on 'connecting' on the telephone menu but if I go to bluetooth audio it actually works. Unfortunately, I can't make calls over bluetooth as its not connecting completely. I'm thinking its because I'm missing the $644 code. When I enter #644 i get a COAPI-1000 error. Could this be because of a conflict with another code in my VO? |

going back to the .ssd file, do I still need to code my vin to the combox or is that not required? |

I'd advice to get rid of $614 $615 and $7sp. Those options came on 2011 and your CIC came from an 09 model. For the Pre-Lci Vehicles $640 Prep code is needed with 644 to enable Bluetooth functions. Bluetooth streaming should be active then.

I don't think the VIN needs to be in the combox. There is a parameter in media (combox ecu) that you can set to "MOST VIN" or "CODING VIN". Either point to a VIN not in the ECU itself.

Another update, I coded $640, $644 and removed $639. That got rid of my COAPI-1000 error but I still do not have Bluetooth phone working. Audio steaming is still working. I also can't read MEDIA, still get the best version error. Any other thoughts? |

Agh I gotcha, thanks Scrippy. I deleted the assist options, I will also try with only $640 and only $644 to see results in each case.
I actually have power on both pin 1 (+10A) and pin 2 (+5A) as per the DIY here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=723325 Should I also try removing power to pin 1 being that it is telematics? Thanks |

Pin 1 & 2 are the only real pin differences in media and telematic comboxes. The other pins are the same or not used between the two comboxes.

Ok some updates here. I tried your idea - looks like it's pin 2 for power. Removing pin 1 made no difference, when I removed pin 2 the combox went dead. So I left pin 1 out. Just a note, there is no red light on the most connectors when you remove the most plug from the combox. The supply I believe comes from that most plug.
As for the coding, with or without $640 and $644 made no difference, still no Bluetooth phone, and no access to MEDIA module. I'm trying to update to the latest SP-Daten files now and will try again. Other than this I'm out of ideas. Any other suggestions? |

Figured it out! It must have been my SP-Daten files. As soon as I updated my Daten files, I had no problem coding the MEDIA module. Once, I coded and reset, I was able to pair my phone.
Thanks Scrippy and everyone who helped. |
