2006 330i - Total Loss Value

Recently rear ended and deemed a total loss. State Farm has offered $7900 for the car which currently sits at 124,000 miles.

Thoughts on the offer and has anyone utilized any techniques when working with insurance companies on determining value?

Side note: Was offered to buy the car back for $1100 but not worth the hassle in my opinion on parting out.

depends on options, but that's right in line with what you can go buy one for.

Before accepting, research other similar equipped 330’s around the same mileage from both dealer and private parties. However, I agree with the others above as a nearly $8k offer is a good start.

My advice do not try to bargain with insurance companies unless they are way off. To them we are cockroaches they can stomp at any opportunity

Fair enough. I really contemplated buying this car back from the insurance company and fixing it but I think it is time to let it go.

I was paid $4,200 for my '06 325i with 350,000 miles on it. Salvage cost was only $450. I bought mine back and fixed it.

Is your car a manual or automatic? What was the repair estimate?

I assume the buy back requires a salvage title be issued correct?

My state didn't. You should check with your states DMV.

I'd run it through an online calculator and see what value it gives for a private sale. What kind of maintenance have you done? Receipts can be a bargaining chip when determining a vehicles value. You don't necessarily have to accept their first offer.

Note to self, never buy a car that has been titled in Maryland.

LOL, my first thought too. Doesn't happen with CA-titled vix.
Curious what was wrong with yours, Ef.

OP, that price seems pretty fair even for out here in expensive-ass Clownifornia.

$7900 is 335i money. Your car must have been in great condition. Buy an 06 325i for $4k and swap over all the 330i parts .

Also agree that price seemed fair for a 12 yr old vehicle.

All totaled means is the quote to repair the car is some percentage of the assessed value and deemed not worth repairing by the insurance company. It's just numbers based on opinions. Most states have laws regarding what percentage of value the repair must be near the assessed value to consider it a total loss. Virginia is 75%.

My car was damaged on the left front, which required replacement of the left headlight, hood, bumper cover, grills, left fender, core support, and the AC condenser. The drivers door also was dented by the deer's hoof. It ended up costing me out of pocket about $1,800. Knowing the previous owner of the car... er me, I knew the mechanical condition and concluded that for $1,800 it was the best used E90 I could find and be comfortable buying. Easy decision. There was no drive-ability damage to my car, it was completely cosmetic. Adaptive HIDs, just one requiring replacement, will total almost any E90 with age and mileage on it. I've already put 10,000 miles on the car since the repair without a hiccup.

In my case, the 350,000 miles was a benefit to me because the salvage value was just $450. No one is going to by used drivetrain parts from a 350,000 mile car, well, except me.

$7900 is more than I expected for a totaled 2006 330i with over 100k miles. I'd take it and move on.

I've been wondering if I can even get that as trade-in value.

I doubt it, trading in is usually a horrible value proposition.
