Just got Back from Dyno... and then Dragstrip! SSTT !!!

UPDATED WITH VIDEO OF A LATER PASS (This one just a tenth slower but you'll get the jist! ) Thanks to Macdutchski for Recording one of my runs, and 5soko for uploading to Youtube!

Hey guys... just got back from Dyno'ing the car at 4pm today (75 degrees)... and then Headed over to Firebird Raceway to do some drag racing!

I did a few Dyno Pulls as always... First... so everyone knows...

Prior to today... car 100% Stock (but w/ K&N Drop In Filter) Dyno'd 279 RWHP & 289 RWTQ.

Prior to today... best 1/4 Mile ET & MPH... 13.5 @ 103.5+ on OEM Tires.

2 or so weeks had went by, and I called up Jeff @ Eurobahn performance, and ordered the SSTT for the car! I know many tuners like Terry & Shiv are getting bigger gains... but for now... I don't want to mess with factory ecu wiring etc... I loved that it was going to take me longer to pop the hood, to install, or uninstall my Performance Chip!

So... sure enough (after unplugging the wrong sensor first... I figurerd it out... and 3 minutes later... as the instruction manual stated... gained 50 HP & 55 TQ (at the motor I'm sure).

Well... so... I then go put in a half tank of 100 octane (had a 1/4 tank of 91)... and go over to Xtreme Motorsports in Tempe... Pull it on the dyno (car sat less than 15 mins... Oil temp was probably 210 ish)...

Car puts down a SMOKING HOT 322.6 RWHP (+43.5 RWHP!!!)
And Puts down an even NASTIER 339.9 RWTQ (+50.1 RWTQ!!!)

So.. one final test... Pull the 500 mile old K&N... and Drop in the 500 Mile old OEM Filter.. Car loses about 6 RWHP... and Torque stays the same. I did this same procedure when car was stock... and K&N was only worth about 1 or 2 HP & TQ. But I figured as you make more power... the better flow will start to make a bigger differance. I don't have the pic of that dyno sheet with me... but it was exactly as you might expect... same power as OEM until about 5500 RPM's... then about 5 RWHP & Torque More than OEM... all the way to redline.

Ok... so K&N back in... and off to the Dragstrip!!!

Show up to Firebird Raceway... it's still just over 70 degrees...

Car RIPS out of the HOLE... running a 1.872 60' foot (Now on 19" Kumho SPT's) (Just 10mm Wider front & Rear 235 front... 265 rear)...

And runs a 12.760 @ 110.09 MPH!!!

Car then either spun... or was hot etc... and ran consistent 12.83's @ 108 & 109 MPH!

I just wanted to say THANKS!!! To Jeff @ Eurobahn (and I'm ready for the Race Turbo Tuner!!!)... and the guys at BRECHT BMW for selling me such an INCREDIBLE RIDE!!!

Car is an e90 Sport Steptronic

Peace,
Dave

That's excellent times for an SSTT! Great Dyno numbers too! Is your car a 2007 or 2008?

2008 October Build. 1,300 miles on her.

Yeah... I think there are definitely more agressive tunes out their... and if this was my only car (let alone race car) I might be more inclined to get a bit crazier with the harness / ecu... but I have real race cars... that I don't mind ripping apart... I'm not ready for that on this one yet!

Thanks!
Dave

Its great to see people going to the track for a change and not only basing a cars performance by dyno only. Thanks for sharing!

Hey, I'm the guy you met at the track. I have videos of your runs if you'd like me to send them to you.

My best time ended up being a 13.7** the same thing I got on all three runs, except the first which I got a 15.** on. I tried disabling the R switch, only thing that happened was my time dropped by .10th of a second and I trapped 5mph lower. Crappy night for me, but I'm addicted now. Looking at tires....

Not bad for 97+ octane looks relatively stock.

Mac, I sent you a PM with my email info... I'd love the Vids!

Next time we go out... I'll email you... we are planning to go to Speedworld in the next few weeks... I have some Road Races coming up first... so Probably last week of January or First week of February.

6speed, plus that JB2R of yours.. is going to always be tough to hook up! The good thing... is by you flicking off the R... and running the same ET but losing 5 MPH... typically means 50 HP! (MPH wise)... we just need to get your car to Hook up! Get some Drag Radials on your OEM wheels, if you still have them... and you'll be launching Full Boost!

Thanks again for the Vids! If you have the 12.7 vid... I'd really like that one... it was a sweet pass!

Dave

Baron, I don't know how much gain, differance... I just knew I was going to the drags... and on turbo cars... your safer to have too much octane, vs too little!

My car will be on 91 Octane from here on out... but if I ever know I'm going to the track... I always put good gas in. I was just bummed that I had a friggin 1/2 Tank!

Peace,
Dave

I enjoy mine as well. BMC filter will be here Monday. I looked but saw no real #'s. Does anyone know the hp gains and price expected from the SSTT upgrade? 93 octane here. Thanks.

+1. Very impressive indeed...congrats! Granted you were running on a race gas mix, but still, that's pretty amazing for the SSTT either way.
