Clock resetting after aftermarket head unit fitting
Hi all. Had a double din fitted in my 08 E93 Feb this year using a Connects2 kit. Stereo was fine for a month. I then had an issue with my electric roof and it went in the garage (stuck half way). Garage fixed it by resetting the main computer and the roof unit (so they say).
Since I got the car back the stereos is fine and is keeping the presets and radio stations but the car dash clock keeps resetting and a few times I have had an engine warning light come on and then disappear after restarting the car. I've heard that I may need a new battery form other forums but I'm wondering if there is something which needs to be done to reset something? Really annoying me as the garage and the car hifi place say the other has caused the issue! Any ideas what the issue could be and a fix? Thanks guys. |

Thanks. Does seem that way but I just can't understand why it happened just after going in the garage.
I was off last week and did a lot more miles and it didn't go until I left it for a day or so, so it does point to battery. What's the process for getting the battery checked? Or should I just buy a new one as I think it might be the original anyway? |

Try removing and giving the battery a charge, they most likely ran it down while playing with the roof.
My car showed the same symptoms even though everyone including 2 BMW dealers saying the battery was ok. 2 weeks after a charge the clock would reset and I'd get warnings, new battery sorted it and it's been fine ever since. |

Hi guys. Sorry to resurrect the same issue but it's happening again!
I had my battery changed and it's been ok until this week. Now getting the same engine warning light for battery again. Anyone else with an aftermarket head unit had this same issue? Could it be alternator or would it have gone bad sooner than this if it was? |

Could be alternator or could be a parasitic drain. The HU might not be shutting down properly.
How is the HU wired into the car? I'd suggest, having the battery checked. If the battery is still good, charge it up and remove the HU. Then leave the car and monitor the voltage of the battery over a couple of days. |

Wired using a Connects2 kit. Powered via the fuse box.
Took the car back to Car Electronics today and booked it in to have them check the alternator and maybe wire it directly to the battery rather than the fuse box. See if that works. Battery was brand new in May so as you say, I think there is a low level drain which has gradually taken the charge down to a point where it's now too low. You think the battery will be knackered if that is the case? If this change doesn't work I'm ripping the lot out and going back to standard. Damn thing! All I wanted was iPhone connection but these bloody cars are a pain to add that too!! |

If going with the gateway500 of MULF2 you can buy a cheap USB+Aux Jack Bluetooth adapter like Tune2air and there you now have streaming from your iPod to HU. |

Buy a multi meter and do a current draw test with the car locked, remove fuses one by one to see what's drawing current.
I've got a double din and have had no trouble at all, it could be anything draining the battery. |
